Bath time advice

So my nakey boy was born in March and I got him in July. I have tried bathing multiple time but he just seems to hate the water. How can I break him of this fear or what other methods can I try to help my baby get all nice and clean. Help my dirty boy!

Oh bless you it took me a year to find a easy stress free solution. I washed him in the kitchen sink.it was great as long as he can stand with his front paws on the outside he is calmer. I still hold his head down but I can get right in all the nooks and crannies and do a proper rinse. Now we’re in the bathroom sink it is so much easier when they are higher and you can hold their head down. He still needs to stand up and now he looks at himself in the mirror too

But what works for one doesn’t work for another.

I hope someone can come up with a routine that suits you and your little boy.

What method are you using now to bath him.?

I either just deal with him trying to claw his way out of the tub (which i feel bad about because I know it can cause him stress) or I will sometimes just get in the tub with him hahaha. Maybe I should try the sink better since it is a more contained space and he can stand up or be closer to me.

We have two sphynx , one who sort of just tolerates bathing and the other who certainly doesn't and to this day is quite vocal in her protests She is almost 9 yrs old now ! We use a baby bath with a non slip mat , over the sink which makes bathing easier than bending over a large bath . Exfoliating gloves to wash and then cotton wool pads the clean faces .I now put calming "cat"music on my phone during bathing and have once or twice tried a cat video to distract them. You will eventually find the best way for him at bath time but Im certain you will get lots of brilliant tips on this site

Im fairly new to the sphynx game - but my ex had a brush coat/almost naked peterbald that I used to bathe.

She absolutely hated baths but had terrible catne so I would just give her a sponge bath - I would fill the sink (or a bowl) with soapy water and wipe her down and scrub her with a cloth and exfoliating gloves. After a while she got used to the water and would tolerate full baths.

My cat hates baths too. I try to avoid full baths by using a soapy wash cloth and clear water rinse. Inbetween washes she gets cleaned with hypo-allergenic wipes. Since the wipe can be cold, I put it in the microwave for up to 5 seconds. She just hates the cold.

When I simply cannot avoid the regular bathing, I put a non-slip mat in the tub and fill the water up to her neck. I don't shower her after bathing, because the noise might scare her. That means for rinsing, I have to prepare a basin of water and a clean cup.

@MommyMouse2Two , I have adoptee nakids that haaate baths. I got a baby stokkes flexibath recommended to me years ago from a member, it that has a drain hole. I put small hand towel in the bottom . place it on bathroom counter on top of a bath towel with drain plug out positioned over the bathroom sink. you can make one yourself with carefully cutting out a hole in a rubbermaid small tote (may be hard to find the older versions that were more rubbery than plastic that will crack).

I use exfoliating gloves too. I set up all supplies, rinse cup on the counter. place kitty in. they stand up front legs on the edge in protest which lets me bath, rinse bellies, armpits etc. . the exfoliating gloves help me hold slippery kitty. I have towels ready when I take them out to pat dry. I recently purchased a rinse aid hose that comes with an adapter to attached to bath sink (check for fitment)

members will surely chime in with tips ... hugs n head smooches.

I used to have to wear a coat when I tried bathing in the tub or sink because they tried clawing their way up and out on me.

let us know if you try the sink method. you could try with water in it or keep drain open and use like the stokkes flexibath and just let it drain out while you bath your baby.. keep us updated! look forward to pics and tales.. name of your baby?

When I put this question out on Sphynxlair when I first got my Sphynx someone mentioned trying to have the water cooler than you think it should be. That has helped for me. I also float toys in the bathtub. I put lots of towels on the floor. I put my kitty in the bath, when she tries to get out I put her on the floor, soap her down, then put her back in the water. She gets dipped in and out of the water until she is clean. She doesn’t like it but I haven’t been scratched in a few years!

Olive oil? Is that ok to use? What about coconut oil?

Olive oil or argan oil can be used. Coconut oil is used a lot too. Some sphynx are allergic to it (getting a rash after using) so alway try a little bit first. And don't forget to wipe it of carefully. Cause the oil removes dirt but also attracks dirt!

I apply a little bit with my hand. Then I remove it with babywipes. They love it when I heat the oil a little (careful to only heat it a little!!)..

@MommyMouse2Two , my crew haaate spa day. I can go a long time between full spa day baths now with using bi weekly wipe downs with Trizultra w/keto that I use as an ear cleaner too that my vet got me hooked on over 15 yrs ago. its dual purpose as ear cleaner and skin flush so I use it for wipe downs.

I wash faces with warm water and baby cotton face cloths.

for body , chins, necks, armpits bellies, legs I use trizultra on cotton swissper pads. really gets the brown off and I can have white sheets again!

I use the large square swippers for body and the round cotton smaller ones for wiping out ears, ( I dont flush ears), I wet the qtips on the small round pads and gently clean. I used a little headlamp in the beginning to see inside ears. I also use it to clean wipe nail beds and the skin folds of the toes that hide gunk.

I like that it is not heavenly scented and they do not mind at all. works better than any baby wipe I ever tried.
