Benadryl?

So the vet thinks Vito is having an allergic reaction to one of the meds he's had during or after his dental cleaning and extraction.

She told me to give him slightly less than 3 mg of Benadryl. The only tablets I can find are 50 mg and really hard to split that small. We tried the liquid children's Benadryl but we had to syringe him 4ml which we were unable to do. Also I'm thinking bubble gum flavored is not the way to go.

Any suggestions? He seems miserable without the Benadryl. He will be going back to the vets-again. Poor little guy is just not himself.

Yes but getting the right dose out of a tablet when his dose is 3mg is tough. Took a long time to find a 25mg tablet but we finally found one.

3mg? In all fairness, I am not quite sure what that will do. My vet has me give 1-2mg per POUND of cat. So, Moses is 10lbs, I gave him 1/2 of a tablet once. In the summer, Fluffy has terrible allergies and I give her 1/2 have a of a 25mg tab probably once a week, and it clears up her eyes for 3-4 days. Sometimes I give her a quarter. I suppose you could guesstimate and break of a tiny piece.

I tried colorfree, flavor free liquid once. It made a mess and Fluffy foamed at the mouth for hours.

FYI if you do give it, Vito will cry for a bit until the tiredness sets in, before he falls asleep. Fluffy cries for about an hour before she falls asleep, then sleeps normally for about 4-5 hours. But she cries LOUDLY and contantly for a long time. Moses got cranky.

You know maybe she was looking at the injectable. It sounds reasonable that you would use less of an injectable vice a tablet.

We bought the 25 mg no name brand tablets of diphenhydramine hydrochloride. Based on what Jen said 1/3 of a tablet should be safe for a guy just over 9 lbs. I will give it a try.
