Update on my Ruby. This morning her vagina looked better. Our vet gave us some antibacterial wipes. I got home tonight and now, I'm not sure, there is dry blood on around her vagina and bum. I'm hoping it's just some stuck poop but she seems very tender. Heading back to our vet first thing in the morning. I'll update again tomorrow. I'm so scared I so hope everything is fine and I'm just overreacting but she's my baby girl.

@draconusgryph I'm glad you are taking her back to the vet this a.m. I hope the vet checks her urine for a UTI. Something is going on and it's obviously not just a rash from the litter. I'll be praying it's nothing serious and just an easy fix. Please update us when you get back from the vet.

The vet is doing an anal swab amd checking her glands. The rash is infected. The vet figures she isn't cleaning herself properly and she may have diarrhea. Gave her malacetic wipes and Isadora gel ointment twice a day.

@draconusgryph thank you for getting back to us. Aww, poor baby must be in so much discomfort especially when she has to use the litter box. Painful area to have an infection. Did your vet mention why he/she didn't give an oral antibiotic as well? Just please keep a close eye on it so it doesn't get worse. I hope the vet is right though.

The vet told me to call her when I got home and look to see if there was diarrhea in the litter box. I looked and called her back. It's so hard to tell because it's burried. She gave her some oral antibiotics, don't remember the name but Ruby takes a half a pill twice a day.

@draconusgryph ok good that the vet gave oral antibiotics. Yes, it can be difficult to tell sometimes if there was a loose stool because some kitty litters do a wonderful job of dehydrating anything wet and then clumping it into a hard form. Also, especially if your cat covers it or covers it very well.

Just keep an extra eye on things and if any changes that aren't positive changes, contact your vet and please don't wait.

Ruby is in so much discomfort. She's on malacetic wet wipes once a day. Then isaderm gel twice a day. Next she takes tylosin tartrate pills twice a day. The pills are for her diarrhea but her poops are really runny amd I'm having to wipe her bum with warm water because it hurts her.
I'm going to take Ruby back for a check up this week, maybe Wednesday unless I can get in sooner. She is so stressed and I wish I could snap my fingers and make it go away.
I am happy and hopefully about the new litter. I will warn everyone, Rubys infection started right after I changed her litter to one with baking soda. Don't use please don't use a baking soda litter brand

Why do they put baking soda in cat litter?

@draconusgryph poor Ruby. Sounds like using the wipes from the vet must make matters a bit more uncomfortable for her to say the least. A spray would probably be way more comfortable for her.

Is she on a probiotic like FortiFlora while on the oral antibiotic? If not, that alone can cause loose stools. Has the vet tested her stool to see why she is having such loose stools to begin with? Who knows, maybe she's got a parasite or bacterial infection that needs to be addressed to control the loose stools. I'm just throwing thoughts out there is all. I hate to hear about a baby suffering.

I would ask the vet if vetericyn spray would be beneficial ?
It's non toxic and has worked wonders on skin conditions over the years here with our pets .
( hot spots, irritated ears , scrapes, cuts , etc)
I like to use soft baby face cloths or flat round cotton cos,Eric pads to wet with the vetericyn
and gently dab areas .


Prayers sent she gets relief soon - hope the new litter helps too
Please keep us updated often on vet follow up

The vet did look at her poop there was nothing so that is a relief.
We also use Acana, have been since she was eating solids.
I do have that spray. In fact I found out about it here. Maybe I will try it as well. It worked great for a scratch Onyx had.

No Ruby isn't on a probiotic, I talk to my vet tomorrow. Today is bath day for Ruby and Onyx. I hope I don't hurt her to much, I feel like I shouldn't bathe her but I know that would be a bad idea. She needs to be clean to get better.

@draconusgryph and @Silke just so you know: Baking Soda is not harmful to the skin. As a matter of fact, it's very useful in drawing out infections on the skin. It's an old-fashioned European remedy! But it works like a charm.

I have used baby shampoo for the last 2 1/2yrs. You would figure she would be used to her baths by now but she hates them more and more. Ruby won't even sit in them. And she is deceptively strong even the vet and the tech could barely hold her. I did use the vetericyn instead of the wipes this morning and she didn't seem to hiss as much in my face, so that is a good thing. I'm calling the vet tomorrow to make a follow up appointment but to me it is looking okay.
Wish I could post a picture of her rash but even I have trouble looking at it myself.

I can't get FortiFlora in my area. Is there a different probiotic

@draconusgryph is the Veterycin you have the "VF"? My bet would be that it's most probably much better than using those wipes from your vet. It's excellent stuff and being that you aren't using a cloth and literally wiping her, it's got to be even more helpful using the Veterycin.

@draconusgryph it's a really sensitive area and no doubt she is raw and in great discomfort. Were there perfumes in that particular Baking Soda kitty litter?

Do you also know which came first: The rash or the loose stools?

Main thing now is to get Ruby all better.
