I can't get FortiFlora in my area. Is there a different probiotic

@draconusgryph the only probiotic I've ever used is the FortiFlora. @Nicolemorgan I believe was able to get the FortiFlora and they live in Canada. Hopefully she can help you with info on that.

But your vet would be able to recommend a probiotic or give you one. It's really important when on an antibiotic. You always want to put back good bacteria into the gut (works the same for humans as well). It's even possible your vet may tell you to purchase a human's probiotic. I cannot tell you to do anything like that as I'm not a vet, of course.

Do you also use 100% Pure Pumpkin to help firm up poo when it's loose?

@draconusgryph it's a really sensitive area and no doubt she is raw and in great discomfort. Were there perfumes in that particular Baking Soda kitty litter?

Do you also know which came first: The rash or the loose stools?

Main thing now is to get Ruby all better.
Ruby always had loose stool but not diarrhea. The litter was arm amd hammer stuff it was unscented but still had baking soda added.
When she pooped lastnight she only pooped a quarter size then 5 minutes later same thing
It's like she's constipated but I think it just hurts her to poop being that the infection is around her bum.
I would have tote to see if the vetericyn is VF. I did use it this morning and she didn't seem to mind AS much.

@draconusgryph no doubt that she is associating pooping with extreme pain at this point for sure. Sometimes, just sometimes when this happens, a cat might associate the litter box with pain instead of actually pooping (or peeing if it's a painful UTI) and they might "go" outside of the litter box. Just giving you a heads up in case you find poo elsewhere in your home. Don't panic that something else is terribly wrong with her.

The Verericyn should be an excellent choice to help her heal. I feel so bad for Ruby. Poor baby.

I used to have extreme loose poo problems with them here (and even saw a bit of blood daily). Once I used 100% Pure Pumpkin twice daily with their canned food, things definitely improved for the most part. I still had one guy with THE most sensitive stomach here. Eventually I switched from always using Royal Canin to Science Diet Grain-Free and it was like night and day! No more loose poop or any stomach issues. I'd never have guessed I'd see such wonderful results.

I was able to get Forti Flora from my vet office, they had it in stock. So perhaps you could ask your vet if they carry it?
Loki is on antibiotics, and he still has runny stool. Not diarrhea, just not firm at all. But I can't get that kid to eat any pumpkin....he is the pickiest eater. But it was worse without the Forti Flora. And he just LOVES it.

@draconusgryph , oh sweet Ruby - healing vibes sent
Be sure to ask your vet about the vetericyn and or vetericyn VF spray -
I really like the product for my crew but you must always check with your vet .
We can't treat here but can pass on info to check with your vet to see if it would be appropriate in Ruby's treatment plan -
My old vet never heard of vetericyn -
* So I brought the bottle with me to my vet appointment .
It has soothed some of the most inflamed skin here.

I feel for sweet Ruby and send positve thoughts she heals soon :)

Here is a pic of the can of 100% pure pumpkin - I have used the store brand too that is 100% pure too
I always read labels to make sure no added spice -
Ironically , the pure pumpkin has worked for both types of poo issues - constipation and diarrhea

So far no poo out of the litter box. Ruby is very picky with food. She sticks her nose up at canned food so I don't know if she will take anything. I know her brother would but his poop is fine

I'm calling my vet tomorrow as soon as it opens to make a follow up appointment so I will ask. Thanks

Just watched Ruby poop. It almost looks normso however i think I saw a bit of blood before she covered it. I can't be sure so I won't be worried. It may have come from her rash. Still calling the vet and asking about the probiotic and the vetericyn.

Please keep us updated often

I would ask your vet too if a half teaspoon or so of pure pumpkin would help.
(For my pets circumstances in the past , I had Flagyl (metronidazole ) prescribed for poo/ tummy issues amd worked great)

Healing Head kisses and (((hugs)))

@draconusgryph sometimes seeing a bit of blood doesn't necessarily mean the worst thing. It can certainly be alarming, but I've witnessed that here way more times than I can count. My vet kept telling me that it was from the food I was feeding them (Royal Canin), but he never "made" me change their food. I found it difficult to believe that totally, but I finally changed to Science Diet Grain Free and it made a world of difference with their loose poo, blood and all other digestive issues!

Of course, I don't know what caused Ruby's bit of blood, but you are calling your vet anyway today, so see what he/she says.

I just want to hear that she is turning a corner and getting better. My prayers are being sent again.

Went to the vet today. She said the Vetericyn is good to use, I'm still to use the antibacterial wipes once a day. The vet said to bring her back in 10 days and if it isn't cleared up she wants to do a biopsy, I can't remember why. The vet does care the FortiFlora and should get the shipment tomorrow, so they are going to call when it's in.

@draconusgryph in the meantime, have you noticed any improvement or is it the same/worse?

I'm glad you'll have the FortiFlora tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed everything begins to go away now.

Ruby doesn't really let me look. The vet said I'm keeping it good and clean. I guess there should be signs if it clearing up. She asked if I could take pictures every day. I tried doing that, Ruby won't stay still long enough

@draconusgryph doesn't Ruby walk around with her tail straight up in the air so you could see how it's doing back there?

Can someone help you take a pic for the vet while you hold her or someone else hold her while you take a pic?

Since Ruby has had this rash she has kept her tail down.
Ruby has never really enjoyed being held otherwise I would ask my daughter to help.

@draconusgryph aww, poor Ruby. She's certainly not herself being that her tail is kept down since the rash. She's really uncomfortable. :( Positive thoughts and prayers this all goes away soon.

I got the FortiFlora today. She seems to like it. I also tried again to take pictures but she would fidget as soon as I tried.
I got to say thanks to all of you that have been so very helpful through this. With suggesting litter, the vetericyn, the probiotic and everything else. I am so pleased there are so many of you to help Ruby

Update on Ruby.
She is doing great. Her rash is 99% gone, only a bit of discolouration is left. The vet is amazed with her recovery and I'm as happy as a mom can be.
