Hello,

Our 6 month old baby boy has started to bite and play rough with us. He doesn't do it viciously but more of rough play. However, he does this not only to me and my husband but also when we have guests over. Is this normal kitten behavior that he will grow out of or are there ways to get him to stop? Titus is a very sweet, loving cat but he has his hyper moments when he plays rough.

My 4 month old does it as well when playing, never breaking skin or really hurting but someone told us to blow in his face if he gets rough and he will stop.....Its working I blow in his face and say NO then grab a toy real quick. Good luck :)

Yep, you need to find a correction you can use to let him know he has gone a bit too far. SpartisMommy uses an air blow in the face. I use a clap... that way if mine is getting on the kitechn counter or doing something on the other side of the room I don't want them to I can still correct them without being near them.

If you correct their play and they continue... correct again and then get up and walk away. You can come back in a couple minutes and continue play.

I agree with Taraforweb, you need to correct it. Playing a bit crazy for a kitten is normal but when it comes to biting if it is more than a love bite can't be allowed. You need to decide along with your husband and anyone else in your home what you are going to do if he starts this and stick to it every time.
Before you know it he will know it is wrong and move on to something else.

Yes, my 5 month old Bambino, Sheldon tends to fly off the handle @ times while playing. I think they just get so excited, but their teeth are so tiny that they almost feel like needles:Woo:

One thing you may also consider... Is he like loving on you, and then for no apparent reason start biting on the neck, and hands, etc...

Funny thing we found out, is my mother in law we moved into our house with us (she has since passed on).. But her and cat always got along, but sometimes he would be loving her, and then start biting her neck and hands.. Not harmfull, but just like instant, she would swoo him away and say wow, he just started nipping at me..

Well funny we found out is was her perfume "Obsession" she would on occasion wear.. We tried a test, my wife squirted a little on day on her neck, and our cat was up on her, started rubbing her neck, then biting at her... I put some on my hand, same thing..

It came down to0, someting with that particular perfume, sets the cats hormones or testostrone or something in overdrive, other than that, nothing else in house perfume wise has that effect..

Onother thing to note, is my brother in law used to come over, and if on the couch, the cat would start going crazy on his head, rough housing with his hair, i mean like the darn cat was horney as hell..

Well found out, was his hair jell... He no longer wears that particular kind, and the cat has never done it sense.. (and yes, i used his jell to test my theory, lol, cat got nuts on my head, held my head like a hot date, lol)..

after researching , they same some perfumes with a sphynx will cause this, as vet told me same thing....

So maybe its a little more than some young kitten rough behavior, something could be helping is moods..

I found that yelling "ouch" when Winston bit worked quite quickly to stop the behavior. Now I no longer have to yell it - can just say ouch - on the rare occasions he treats me like a snack or form a prey and he stops immediately. If you're guy is sensitive one, this might work for you as well...

Yelling Ouch loudly also stopped Count von count from biting hard too.

Make sure you, or other family, friends etc are not playing with your hands with the cat. A lot of people see a kitten and then start wriggling their fingers and waving their hands around and this teaches the cat that hands are toys...which isnt cute for long!

Also make sure no one is overstimulating the kitty which triggers biting. Good luck!

Hi everyone
This is indeed a problem that concerns us.
Suki IS also a four-month puppy biting us ..
Already tried all the ways their offer, we are a little desperate ..
That usually is a loving, purring kitten ..
And another thing, is wounding us with nails when it climbs to us on their shoulders.
Is Sphinx is actually a parrot without wings?
:Surprise:
Thank you very much
