Hi all,
I've a question about my boys skin, and some black marks? spots? that have appeared on his rear. They look like they're in the hair follicles, and are all around his behind, and on the base of his tail. They're not lumps, it's almost like ingrained dirt, but bathing has not washed them off. It's only recent that I noticed them, and I've no idea what's causing them. They're really tiny, and this is the best photo he'd let me take! Can anyone help? x

Is George neutered? It does look like blackheads. Do you use an exfoliating glove when bathing? That can soften help. @GeorgesMum
Hi, no he's not neutered yet, would that make a difference then? And I haven't tried an exfoliating glove, I have one so I could try that next bathtime. I thought it looks like tiny blackheads, is it normal to get them on the rear end instead of the face?

@GeorgesMum , my toby had some blackheads when I adopted him at 11 mos old.. they can get "studtail" , skin hormonal symptoms when intact, showed up on rear parts on my boy .

I do also use exfoliating gloves too I learned about in group. also do not use coconut oil as it can clog pores. wearing clothing can cause skin issues too.

once I got Toby neutered no more skin issues. *** sharing always confirm NO Ketamine anesthesia as it can have a rebound effect on heart if unknown underlying heart conditions. my vet uses isoflurane /propofol and have done well.

@GeorgesMum it is very normal if not neutered to have “stud tail.” Another benefit of neutering many do not know about. Once neutered it takes a while for the hormonal change and there is natural decrease in any issues.

Here are some other great benefits resulting from neutering/spaying you might find interesting.

Right, I'd never heard of it, another new thing I've learned! I will bear this in mind. We haven't really discussed neutering, but as he's purely a family member, and no intentions of breeding him, it sounds more and more that it's worth doing.

Thanks for this, I'd never heard about it, and thank you for the info about the anaesthesia. Our vet had mentioned that it would be a good idea to get his heart checked before any general anaesthesia, such as neutering.
I'll definitely avoid the coconut oil, and he's outgrown his jumpers a bit, so he's refusing to wear them right now!

I will, think he's going to get neutered fairly soon after learning this, bet he won't talk to me afterwards! He likes throw blankets, we've got a good number around the house now.
