Blue Buffalo/ Raw Food

I actually joined this site looking for answers about food specifically. I noticed on amazon review someone else had digestive issues with their sphynx and blue buffalo food.

Kimchi is 14-ish weeks old. The breeder fed him blue buffalo wilderness and raw food now and then. I switched to blue buffalo- Indoor health or something along those lines. (Its not the wilderness variety.) He has had gas/ loose stools. He's been to the vet and its definitely got to be the food. The breeder recommended using purina one to get him back on track. I have not tried this but he has been a mess for two weeks. He uses the litter box and I have to chase the booger down because it is ALL OVER HIM. He clears the room and stinks up the whole entire house.

I do occasionally give him raw milk, and raw meat. I bought a heavy duty meat grinder from the breeder. I was hoping to transition to a diet that combines raw food with good quality dry food. I'm afraid of committing to all raw.

For the next week I plan to not let him have anything at all besides the dry food.

When changing foods there is always chance of getting poop issues. You need to pick one and stick with it, at least for awhile to get his system back on track. Mixing raw and dry is not recommended due to they digest at different speeds.

I would recommend wet also with the kibble just to be sure no dehydration is taking place due to his diarrhea.

Also, poop can smell, but if it's really bad and the fact he is a new kitten I would recommend reading this article http://www.sphynxlair.com/f53/sphynx-cat-diarrhea-giardia-3610/ Giardia is common in new kittens. it is easily treated and does no harm even if he does not have the parasite.Good luck and keep us posted!

He was tested for parasites. I think it might be a milk allergy. I did not know that many, many cats are actually lactose intollerant. He hasn't smelled up the house in a few days. Maybe he's finally adjusted to the blue buffalo.

Zero could clear the house for HOURS when we first got him, and he was eating kibble. Quite literally, it would make your eyes water it smelt so bad, and even though we cleaned it immediately after he went the house still smelled like it for 3-4 hours...

until we switched to raw. Immediately it didn't stink anymore. We don't even notice at all when he uses the litterbox anymore. He also got way more playful and cuddly. I highly recommend it.

I would recommend raw as well--I wouldn't be nervous about the switch as you would be doing a good thing for your kitty! My baby was on kibble when I got her and had poo/gas issues but after switching to raw those issues are a thing of the past. I use Nature's Variety raw but it sounds like you are all set up to make your own. I'm sure you'll find a routine that works for you .​

Definatly trying raw ASAP when oh girl comes home..... Tried kibble before and even when the poo was firm it stunk horrible !!!! The "better in the raw " supplimens powder that u mix with minimal effort w fresh meat seems to be the choice when I polled on here! Mix powder and water- mix it in meat sounds easy may solve some issues--worth a shot But w with the new baby we will c soon!
