He is not fat at all having a fat stomach is part of the sphynx standard.
Also make sure the vet knows the black stuff in the ears are not ear mites.
Many vets think they are and give meds when it is oil.

We just got back from the vet. Fecal was negative and he checked up pretty good except for a little bacteria in his right ear. The vet prescribed medicated ear drops for that, and we got aloe and oatmeal cat & dog shampoo, Q-tips, cotton balls, Nutro weight management cat food, a leash...hmmm...lots of stuff. I can tell he will be an expensive baby, but he's as sweet as can be.

He weighed in at 13lbs. The vet said he's overweight for his frame. He has a big round belly and could stand to lose a little. So we'll see how this goes.

Thank you all for all of your support. Keep the names comin'. We have to get rid of "Prince". It's just not him.

I dont think your sphynx is heavy at all! Compared my girl Snuffie he's a rockstar!! lol I'm glad overall he is well. I hope he didn't mistake his ear goo for yeast in his ears. Sphynx can have rather yucky ears at times.

The vet actually looked at the "ear goo" on a slide under the microscope to diagnose the bacteria. It was only in the right ear. Lots of yucky goo came out of both ears though. Tomorrow I'm going to give him a "spa treatment" (a.ka. very very good bath!)

Welcome to the Lair! Your boy is very handsome! he is a nice sturdy male and I don't think he looks overweight at all.

Good luck with spa day! Mine don't mind bath and grooming time, they just complain a lot through the process.

I agree with the advice about water at least past the belly and up to the neck if possible. Nice and warm. Made a difference for mine as well. They also like their towels warmed in the dryer so they are nice and warm for them when they get out of the bath. I always follow bath time with treats.

As far keeping the bottom clean, I always keep some baby wipes for sensitive skin on hand. The work great for keeping dirty Sphynx clean in between baths, as well as wiping any dirty bums after a trip to the litter box.

Well "Spa Day" was more like a Spa Mess. I'm not suprised that he hates the bath. It doesn't look like he got very many. I washed his body and his face. I'm giving him a break and some breakfast before I wash his paws and nails. It's definitely going to take baby steps with this guy.

One question, he has small black head all over his neck, under his arms and on the top side of his tail. What type of moisturizer do you all recommend?

I have not had this problem... but if you search old threads for kitty acne, I think people have recommended stuff for it. It is probably due to him not being bathed enough. Just like humans, the oil builds up and blocks pores. Weekly spa treatments will help.. LOL Good luck with the nails and feet!!

Niles "broke out" with kitty acne last week. Honestly it is common in all cats, but usually on their faces.

My vet walked me to the shampoos and sent me home with...
1) Pharmaseb-- a soak for the pimply areas. Leave on for 10 minutes.
2) Aloe and Oatmeal Shampoo
then
3)Comfort conditioner to use when he is flakey.

All are made by Animal Pharmaceuticals

Oh yes, the kitty acne. Niles gets it sometimes on his neck, feet, and lower back by his tail. The regimen that Gizzysmom reposted works great for Niles, but each kitty is different. Let me know if you need help!
