A week ago I put down a $600 deposit on two brothers that were born Aug 18th. Today I got an email that said that because the weather has been so hot in Ca they placed the mom and the kittens in a separate room with air conditioning and in the morning they were lethargic because it was too cold (they didn't leave enough blankets) and one of my boys died :(

Then, the breeder told me that the other one opened its eyes and one eye is red and the other is grey/blue. It was written on the site that if they are odd eyes they will be 2500 each.

So now, I have lost both of my kittens. Another litter is due in a couple weeks but they are a different color ... and ..... I wanted my original boys.....

Im so sad.... My boyfriend and I are heart broken .... I can't believe the little one died. I'm at loss for words....

I am so very sorry for your loss!! WOW! that is really hard to take! I just don't understand. Was he/she an experienced breeder? Thats is just awful.

I am sure it was an accident but still.I would get the breeder to get my money back and get another breeder.

I don't know exactly how experienced they are but I know they have had at least 4 others liters in the past. They have 2 males and 5 females.

Ah no!! That is so sad!! I'm so sorry. The breeder should make compensations to you or something. I hope she was apologetic.

Now that just makes me angry. We lose kits sometimes due to many factors beyond our control, but to lose them because we put them someplace where they weren't warm enough is just a sin. What did the breeder offer you as a remedy?

I'm sorry for your loss, I wonder if that really happened or if they got sick from a virus etc. How cold would a room have to be/ how high would the AC be running?? I'm presuming by the eyes opening comment that they were extremely young.

The fact that they are now holding back the other kitten because it's worth more money to them now is awful. I hate prices getting hiked up because of eye color etc. They agreed to sell you the kitten, so eye color shouldn't come into it. (If they were that bothered they should have held out taking deposits until the kittens eyes were open.)

They've breached the contract, whether written or verbal, ask for your deposit back and look elsewhere.

I'm sorry you've been left disappointed and heartbroken.

I agree with everyone else. Get your $$ back and find someone else with some sense and decency. How dare they ask you to pay more for one kitten after they killed the other with their ignorance? There are plenty of other breeders out there who would do better for you. I am so sorry you're going through this!

Are you sure this breeder exists? I can't understand how this could happen. I'm sorry this didn't work out for you, I would get the money back and go to another breeder.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss  but this also sounds really fishy to me. Why would the kittens need to be separated from their mom even if it is hot? Find out about getting your money back and leave ASAP. This kind of mistake does not sound like a true one in my opinion.

Sadly I think this incident was the product of somebody pumping out more kittens than they can handle. I was not impressed after my limited dealings with this person

I am so sorry for you. I can't believe the breeder emailed you the news instead of calling you. That is inhumane.

Somethings smells fishy... them telling you they killed kitten accidentally (if it was true brave and honest of them to take responsibility).. however the fact that they now suddenly mentioning that the remaining one has the eye colour thing and therefor will cost you more (almost trying to make up the money for the lost kitten)... nah I smell something not right in this story.. my gut is saying get your money back (although if it is a scam its probably doubtful you be able too! unless you actually have a valid address for them) and go some where else... no breeder that would have my respect would try get money back for lost kitten by charging you more for the surviving one...

I am so sorry for your loss! My breeder and I were just talking about her pet sitter turning up the air too high in the kittens' room and the breeder getting mad so it's such a shock that the breeder would have purposely done that. :Furious: I hope the breeder will give you back your deposit especially since it was through her own negligence. ::hugs::

The breeder was very apologetic. As a remedy, she offered two kittens from her next liter. She also told me she understands if I want to get my deposit back.

I want to thank everyone for their kind words. Its been really hard and reading your comments has made me feel really support. Thank you for the love.

I really believe it was a mistake - a very unfortunate one. I went through Paypal when I sent my deposit so It won't be a problem getting it back. But I'm torn between waiting for her next liter - which will arrive in less then a week or going somewhere else. Unfortunately, I don't know of many breeders in Northern California.
