Hey ya'll... So many of you know my story but will give a bit of history to jog memory.
My intentions were ALWAYS to get 2 sphynx, not 1. I wanted my babies to have each other to play with when I was working!
I got a kitten, Oliver from a breeder & only had him for a few days before having to put him down (FIP)
Breeder replaced him with my current kitten, Starla & said he would also give me another because he felt terrible about situation, etc... Babies are approx 4 weeks old now.
Ok, so I text breeder a few pictures of Starla so he could see her looking so cute as she always does. He responded, we chatted for a min (via text) about Starla. I asked how the babies were doing & got no answer. Fast forward to the day after the hurricane- I text him to make sure he was ok (they are located in NY) & he responded that everyone was fine etc, again we chatted for aminute about Starla & then as soon as I asked about babies, he stopped chatting... :(
I follow him on Instagram & he hasn't posted any new pics of the kittens in 2 weeks... I'm not sure if something happened to them & he doesn't want to tell me or if he has now decided to back out of his word & not give me a 2nd but I'm really frustrated & I really don't know what to do. So I text him yesterday saying that I was really wondering about the kittens, were they ok because he hasn't answered me etc... & nothing back.
I'm really sad. I went through so much **** (excuse my french) with Oliver & came out of pocket $1000 on vet bills when he came to me sick!!!! I felt like the breeder was really trying to make ammends but now I'm like what the heck?
So I guess I'm on my own again... I read that River Road Rescue will have 7 kits avail in a few weeks & I've contacted them by email twice & no answer & then I called & their message says that they won't return your call unless you've filled out an application but no where on there website I see a link for an app... Just frustrated. I really want Starla to have a buddy & now I"m really nervous about breeders.. I'd rather rescue if some naked babies need homes... Just frustrated.

I'm so sorry to hear the breeder is not responding to you. I seems to me he had a change of heart and is trying to back out of your deal. I had a bad experience with a breeder also after losing my Ragdoll baby to FIP, I did not even get a replacement kitten, the breeder refused to answer any emails or phone calls from me after she found out my baby was sick. I feel my sphynx baby's breeder is a good person and cares for her cat's and babies, but still have to admit I'm nevous about doing this again. Good luck

That's how I feel... The crazy part of it all is that I never asked, he offered! That is just crazy to me. The thing that concerns me though is that he has posted new pictures on Instagram but none of the kits... Makes me feel like something happened to them.

Anything is possible, If one kitten has died of FIP, it means the virus is in that cattery. I'm sure you did a great deal of research on FIP as I did after you lost your baby. The cattery that I got my baby Max from had lost more than 1 kitten to FIP. I hope all the kittens are safe and happy.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this.
I know your heart has already been hurt so much.

I wanted to add that I know at least 3 sphynxlair members have adopted through river road. Hopefully one will pipe up in terms of the application process, but if not I'd recommend pm'ing spartismom. I'm sure she'd be glad to fill you in.

Good luck!!

Thanks. I just got an email back tonight from river road but appreciate
All the info.
I am hurt because I really believed him, ya know... Really sucks when you don't have a good relationship with the breeder... I wouldn't trade Starla for anything but thus isn't the way it should be... I had the money for 2 kits because i knew I wanted 2... Unfortunately I had to use the money i had for second kitten to treat Oliver & ultimately put him down so I really am leary to do this over again with another breeder...

I would get on BBB, or if his business name is on Google, write a review. It's always good to warn other people if the breeder can't stick to his word, you may save someone else some heartache later on. And if he begins to get bad reviews, he may just have to change his practices to keep customers.

**Nevermind, RR is in NY and does not ship. I live in Idaho, so it would be quite a trip to get there and back. On a side note, how do I delete a post? I see the "Edit/Delete" button, but I don't see how to actually delete a post!***

((((But on a side note (if you don't mind me using your threat to ask)....River Road is a sphynx rescue?))))

So sorry about the Breeder, you said he doesn't live too far from you right? You had a verbal agreement for another kitten and he should stick to it. I know it's forward but if I became too frustrated I'd go there and ask to see them and ask him if he has gotten an offer and this being the reason he has become 'off' about your kitten. I'd go insane because you know Starla needs a friend. Everything is in her best interest. Right now I'm just waiting to know if Graddy's mom is pregnant and his breeder is use to getting a message from me everyday. I'd literally go psychotic of she didn't reply. Just tell him to be honest with you. Geez it's that simple. I really feel for you I know the pain you've been through. I hope it gets cleared soon. Huge hugs to you and princess Starla!

I agree with Graddydani, I would go over, knock on the door, act very excited to check on the kittens, and ask if you get to pick one. Def need to have a forward, straight conversation about it. Good luck and Im sorry this is happening.

So he ended up texting me this morning saying there was a problem with one of the kittens not making it (there were 4 now only 3) & that he was bottle feeding one of the others & is worried.

I emailed with the woman from RR last night, she sent me a video of them but I can't view it on my phone for some reason! (SAD) but she said she'll email me this weekend, I guess they didn't have power from the storm so it halted a few things. I'm going to move forward with her if possible because I really would like to rescue!

I hope this rescue place works out for you. I think its best to move away from this breeder with him loosing kittens. I know it happens, but after the FIP incident, and now another litter he's "worried about", just seems excessive.

Good luck to you!

Rwalkerg is right. Maybe it's best to cut ties with him. Did he say what he lost the kitten to?

No he didn't, they are only 4.5 weeks & this was the first litter for this queen so I know its common but it makes me nervous... I am going to move forward with rescue if she accepts me. Gotta stalk the RR website until the pics go up and I can apply!

Rescuing is always good (and usually much cheaper then going through a breeder). I've rescued all my animals, I don't think I will ever buy from a breeder. Breeders will normally always find a home for all their animals, there's something special about rescuing and giving a home to an animal that otherwise may not have found one.

just want to add this for anyone else that comes across this... river road is not necessarily a rescue. i am adopting through them, and this litter is only labeled rescues because the parents of the kitties do not have papers, so neither can the kittens. but they aren't actually rescued, they are just bred. i have read other posts on here that mention how/why/what from their sphynx was rescued, so some are rescues. but just keep in mind that they ma not be and that is definitely something to talk about while contacting them (this goes for any rescue). the experience i have had so far through river road has been absolutely wonderful and i am very confident it will continue that way
