I took Luci in for his vaccines a couple weeks ago and on one of his legs he has a bump. It’s like a hard lump under the skin, doesn’t seem to be bothering him. Just doesn’t look nice and I took him to the vet yesterday and said it could just be a reaction to the vaccine he was given (rabies vaccine) and should “hopefully” go away in a few months or to contact them if it gets bigger and they may have to do surgery…. Has anyone else’s cat had a reaction like this to a vaccine before?

We have had a bump pop up a week+ after vaccinations and all have gone away over time. I would measure the circumference now and keep a log every few days. If it gets bigger I would let your vet know your findings.

Seeing the pic again, they might have given the vaccine a bit lower on the leg than ours get theirs. Our one boy just got his yesterday and it was given higher up than that…no bump yet, but you can bet I am looking.

@Madisonskye , echoing catzzzmeow's reply to measure the size.

you can use a cloth tape measure or a regular tape measure.

I would measure and take a photo of the lump with the tape measure with your cell phone to see if it is going down.

hopefully all will resolve on it's own in a few weeks, some I have read can be up to a few months.
keep in mind we see the lumps because they are hairless. my furbaby cat had a lump I could feel but covered by fur so most would not notice.

you are not alone, we have had other members share lump at rabies vaccination that took some time to go away.

keep your vet and us updated often on sweet Luci. hugs n positive vibe head smooches.

Thank you so much! I will be keeping an eye on it for sure! He’s just so young and I’ve had a few issues already.

@Madisonskye , awh, hugs. keep in mind we see more on them because they are hairless. like the small red bumps on his underside (did those go away? ) and vaccine site lump .

we are here for you team Luci!
we all get a spa day routine etc that works best for our babies. you are in the best of hands here, never hesitate to ask questions. we gotcha!
I remember when I got my first nakid.

We went bonkers from Toni’s shot bump. Hubby says it was 2 weeks until it went away…Thankfully I just couldn't even remember how long it took. I concur that it is quite disturbing. We took the pics to send to the vet. I dont know if it shows.
