I want a new camera. Don't want to spend a fortune as I have small children who are fascinated with stealing my current camera and taking pictures of furniture etc

I'm looking for one for; landscapes/ kids/ cats etc, so general use by an amateur...

What camera do you use?

I quite like the look of this one...

I'm not that into photography but my boyfriend is so I bought him the Canon 450D and the picture quality is amazing. The one in the link looks nice and I don't think you can really go wrong with a Nikon or a Canon, sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

I'm pretty deep into close-up and still photography and have been for many years.

The camera I first had that won me an award was an Easyshare Z7590. They were about $300 5 years ago. They'd more than be in your price range now. At 5MP, they're good enough for practically everything you'd need, even movement shots. And they do decent video. 99.9% of my photographs was done on animals, including those who were moving. I'll include some shots here of what I've taken with this camera:

Here's my award winning shot, 2006:

In September of 2009, I upgraded to a Nikon D90 (includes video mode), here's a pic:

and while I love my Nikon there are tons of things my Canon can do that this bigger camera cannot.

Here are a few pix from a trip to the zoo with my D90.

For your situation, I'd recommend an Easyshare. The model I have comes with a loading dock that transfers pictures, charges the camera AND prints!

I'm in the market for a new camera, too, as my family and I will be going to Europe this summer (Germany, Switzerland, and Italy) and I want to take lots of pics while I'm there. I'll be interested in seeing the recommendations posted here. I want something that's lightweight and easy to use; also, long battery life.

A few years ago I bought a new Camera for our trip to Australia. I wanted the Canon Rebel XTI (or any SLR camera) but they are / were VERY pricy so I settled for the Canon Powershot I5. It is a large sized camera, but it has so many great features. Video, panorama, and one of my fav's the Macro Feature. It will also do the color selct, so that everything but the one hue you choose is in black and white...it makes for intersting pics.

Here are a few examples of pics I've taken with my camera.

Good luck on your hunt

Nikon is a good brand. I've had a Sony Cybershot for the past 5 years and it works like a champ. It's small, cost about $130.00 bucks, and takes great pictures, and is really durable! My husband takes it with him when he goes out to sea! I also have a Cannon Rebel T1i but it costs around $800.00. It's an excellent camera if you really ever want to get into photography.

I'm a Nikon fan!! Mine recently had a tragic death due to my 3 WONDERFUL children fighting over it when I wasnt around but it was great until then!! LOL

That's the problem with mine. They always find it and its covered in sticky fingermarks and full of pictures of the ceiling and floor. I will have to learn to hide it better.

Well good luck, I have yet to find one child proof and any thing new I get the kids seem to think they deserve rights to it as well. My kids tend to take photos of each other doing stupid things to each other or pics of each other sleeping funny or spy cam and catch one picking their nose. LMFAO They are halarious but Im not too proud of some of the photos! lol
