Ciclosporin Eye Ointment

Hi there, I just wanted to ask if anybody has any experience with this for their Sphynx’s eyes?

My 20 week old kitten has just been prescribed this yesterday as his eye looked a bit sore/slightly squinted and a little swollen.

I ladministered it last night, but this morning his eyes look a little worse. I’m not sure if it’s the meds, or if all the messing around at the vets yesterday with the tear production test and the dye… I just wondered if anyone has any experience with this medication or eye issues please?

Did the vet say why they were prescribing this medication?
My girl is on it as she has scarring from a previous infection and was also diagnosed with feline herpes virus. I was giving it to her twice daily when first prescribed as the regular vet thought she had a small corneal sequestrum and referred her to the ophthalmologist. She was eventually taken off the medication as she was fine but lo and behold we had to resume.
She has very watery eyes with discharge normally and after the meds it’s worse. The alternative to not taking them are worse for her. I have attached a picture so you can see what her eyes look like. Hope that helps (please ignore the food on her face she had just eaten lol)

He said there wasn’t any active ulcer but he thought it was “strange” that there were small blurred/clouded areas in both eyes.

Did he say to recheck it after a certain period of time of using the medication? Like after a week or two? To see if the eyes cleared up?

Yes, he said to come back in 10 days, but his eye looked more swollen today so I took him to a different vet for a second opinion, but she’s just given him Yellox eye drops that I believe are NSAIDS for the inflammation…

I’m not certain I fully “trust” that either have been hugely thorough so I’m taking him to an ophthalmologist - the earliest appt is Friday so I’m just praying it doesn’t get much worse before then and we can manage until Friday…

I’m just not certain - even after googling - what the Ciclosporin is actually addressing… and why nothing antibacterial/antibiotic has been given as a conjunctivitis approach?! I’m just sick with worry about my little boy.

I agree that an ophthalmologist visit would be your best bet. Most times the vets prescribe neobacimyx ointment for starters for any infection type treatments or conjunctivitis. I’m surprised they went right for the cyclosporine.

Hopefully you’ll get the answers needed and that nothing gets worse before Friday. It’s tough to get into specialist vets these days.

@Klove1981 , is this sweet Phoenix or Cairo? all paws are family. is only one baby exhibiting eye issue? did you reach out to their breeder to update?
so glad you are going to ophthalmologist Friday. let them know you have two babies

my Yodaman had an eye issue. regular vet put on meds, took to eye specialist and did exam, changed, added some meds and all healed.

Never hesitate to ask vets/specialist questions , I ask them what meds for and the actual diagnosis.
I write down some questions. take the current meds with to the eye specialist appointment.

** I also ask vets they have seen to email copy of records . I have them email me and keep on my phone to share with specialist.
I am familiar with several eye meds, that one I do not have experience with.
