Clothes question

Samara has been nursing on herself to the point of giving herself some hickeys. But a couple of them are starting to look like sores. I'd like to put some shirts on her so she can't reach her belly to nurse. For those of you that put clothes on your sphynx do you leave them on while you are gone during the day? I'm wondering if my trouble makers would get themselves hung up on something?

I've never left my cats unattended (when I leave the house) with clothes on them for the same fear that they'd either get caught on something or they'd try to wiggle out of the clothes and trip all over the place with one arm/paw stuck inside the chest/belly part.
I know years ago my vet gave me some sort of cream in a tube to put on a bandage that a dog of mine had and wouldn't leave it alone. She kept on chewing the bandage off until I put this cream on top of the bandage. Maybe ask your vet if there is something that he can give you to put on her so she won't suck on herself since you are saying she's hurting herself. It was a cream that tasted bad...that was the purpose. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I would imagine anything is possible. I would say if possible, remove the shirt when your not home.

OMG! Winky nurses on herself, too! And on Dobby! Isn't that weird that both sisters do that? They've both had the occasional hickey from Winky's frequent suckling.

My older boy Liam used to suck on his blankie until he was approx. six months old. Actually, it was probably just before that. We had brought Grayson home and whenever Grayson heard Liam sucking (loudly) on his blankie, Grayson thought it was time for milk and he would run and suck on Liam. Liam got tired of being sucked on so he figured that if he didn't suck on his blankie making all that noise, that Grayson would leave him alone! LOL It worked!
Grayson sucks still to this day, but on my hand and on my face! LOL Simon also sucks on me (my left arm as he cradles himself in my left arm like a baby)!

Just as I was saying Phiona doesn't nurse on herself anymore I woke up this morning to her nursing like it was going out of style! I just don't feel comfortable with the thought of leaving them in clothes without being supervised. Samara seems to do the nursing mostly at night in bed so I think I'll get her some shirts to wear to bed and see how that works. I'll look for the cream too. Thanks all

I leave worms shirts on her but with the help of her brother she gets out of them! Worm sucks on her toes so I have a cream that I apply to her feet to help with the irritation. If its not her feet then she's sucking on its my neck! Lol

That's my usual wake up from the girls. I'm surprised I don't have hickies on my neck when I leave the house!

I personally think it depends on the style of clothing, if it is just Velcro across the upper and lower part of the body I leave mine on and I try to make sure other clothing fits well. I heat with a woodstove and sometimes it is cool in the house enough for clothes but not cool enough to light a fire. Or I would have to walk around with no clothes on so my kitties do clothes.

Nika wears a shirt when we are not home. It is often cool and/or drafty in our house and she won't come out from under her blankets if I don't give her an extra layer.

I have never really worried about it, they are a thin jersey fabric and I assume they would tear before they could choke her if she somehow got caught.
