I have been hiding around the lair for a while and am finally starting to look into getting myself a little buddy. First thing, of course, is to start saving. So I made a little box to start putting extra aside in. I got the Sphynx sticker on Etsy, I forget where. I am pleased with how it turned out!

I am disabled and stuck at home most of the time. Does anyone else have fun cat related projects they would suggest? I’d like to start making toys or clothes in advance.

Wow that is amazing and clothing is so easy to make. I originally bought a bigger top then cut it up to make my own pattern pieces and as my little one grew I altered the pattern. They are so easy to make and it maybe worthwhile for you to make funky little tops to sell and help your jar. I live in China and we have lots of cheap suppliers for cat clothing That now it is cheaper for me to buy than actually sit down and make them now.
I would suggest a little raglan sleeve first as it is easy with no fuss to put together
The red top was my first attempt and then the yellow was the latest. Lots of ladies here have super clothing they have made themselves. I hope to see your new baby soon. May your box runneth over very soon

Omg those outfits are cute and don't look too hard! I do have a lot of scraps and quarters of fabrics lying around! That's a great idea! Thank you :) Also your little one has the cutest eyes! What a little darling!

I found with our two if I wanted them to wear what I make, then making harnesses was it. You can get collar and harness hardware and patterns online. They're pretty easy to make, but be careful to never use the breakaway buckles meant for cat collars on their harnesses. I use velcro on the harnesses, but use buckles too, as a safety measure. If you want to earn extra money, or take your baby on adventures, then these may be the thing. I make my husband’s shirts, so Cleo and Marcus have a couple of harnesses to match.

While I was waiting for my Sphynx I contacted the different veterinary clinics in my city to find out which vets had experience with Sphynx kitties. The one I found has a plan where I pay a certain amount each month and her spay was free, all of her vaccinations are free, I have free vet visits 5 times a year, her toenails get cut for free, and I get a 10% discount on the food I buy from them. Not sure if other vets offer this. I find it beneficial.

I'm definitely going to ask around! My lil scottish fold girl sees one vet and does fine enough with her but we've had problems with them not being able to provide specialized care (it's a ruralish area). I'll still be living in the area, but we have a few more places around here that I want to inquire with for familiarity with the breed after the research I've been doing. It's important to me that my companions live the best lives I can give them!

And thank you everyone for the lovely ideas and tips! I really appreciate it. I'm working on savings and.. while I'm getting some resistance to the idea of me bringing a kitten into the family household before I'm fully moved out, I'm still working on finding more information and trying to figure out when I should also start looking for a breeder. These things keep me from getting kitten fever too bad (I really need to stay off of instagram!!!)

You may want to let the cat rescues and vets in your area know you're looking for a Sphynx. We got our Cleopatra as a kitten from a rescue in Las Vegas, and nearly got another kitten from our vet, after the owners didn't want her. Cleo hasn't got the awesome pedigree that Marcus boasts about, but she's the smartest, most adventuresome, and (ahem) MOST BEAUTIFUL cat in the world. (And her adoption fee was about 1/3 the price of Marcus’ fee.)

Awww she is super cute!!! I did talk to my vet the other day, apparently, she has several Sphynx patients and she said she can't wait til I get one (and said she'd ask around about kittens and breeders locally). I also found a breeder that is an acceptable driving distance from me! so I've got a few options now. I want to wait and hear from my vet first though.

She tried to talk me into a Norwegian forest cat though. Charming as those kitties are, my heart has always been on Sphynx kitties!! Cleo is adorable!

Awww, you are so nice. Thank you. When you talk to breeders, ask about retired breeding cats. They are often 2years old or less, and do not have the sky-high price tag as kittens. Ask also about slightly older kittens. Some buyers return kittens for a variety of reasons, or a kitten may not sell as a baby. Baby kittens are very sweet, but are more work, especially if you live alone and work away from home. Older kittens and young cats are much easier, but still playful and Sphynx-crazy.

That is absolutely one of my goals to look into as well. My current furbaby is an older adoptee. She's a scottish fold mix (thankfully because that means she's less prone to the issues that breed has, hopefully) that I rescued and she.. was much cheaper to adopt. Poor baby spent the first 1.5 years fo her life in a cage; she's such a sweet little thing though not the most affectionate lol.

I think when I do adopt/rescue/whatever I will get a male kitty. It's been over 15 years since I had a kitten last to pounce my head at 3AM. And about the same since it was a male fluff ball.

It's coming along pretty well! I'm up to about 500. Hoping to add some more listings for things for sale and craft some things over the next month or two. I have definitely found a breeder I'm interested in if my vet doesn't turn up any results for me.

I made the mistake of looking at one of the breeders that I like.. and of they have a baby that I absolutely fell in love with and am obsessing over. Curse my adhd and autism.
