So our new kitten is about 14 weeks old, and been with us for approximately 2 weeks. The breed is amazing. The perfect fit for our lives and lifestyles.

Our kitten has transitioned fabulously and the only negative is that although the cat and dog have zero issues, our kitten wants to be buddies and the dog would rather not. No aggression but when the kitten lays with her she simply gets up to move (or not be annoyed).

So to my question, my breeder has contacted me and advised that she has one kitten left and she wants to know if I'm interested. I definitely am, I know for sure I want more we just didn't consider this scenario. So my questions...

Any benefits or disadvantage to getting litter mates? They would be sisters.

Any benefits or disadvantages to getting two kittens at once, or maybe waiting a year?

Anyone with siblings or different aged kittens/cats notice any difference in their bonds or relationships?

Thanks!!!

@FollowTheCourse yihaaaaaaa! A second kitten. And even her sister!! That's great.
Okay before I start yelling YES do it! first the question if you're able to take care of two sphynx (think about double vet visit and payments, double food, double litterboxes etc)

If so....having two kittens in your home is so much fun. I got my two boys, brothers, two years ago together. They are really attached to eachother, play and cuddle like best friend. First I was a bit afraid they would cuddle together and less with me. But they just both jumped in my hoody for cuddles.

So if you ask me:
Two kittens means double fun and double love (and double trouble:)).

As soon as you decided: let us know!

If you can afford it, YES! Two are better than 1. Mine are half siblings and about a year apart. They are inseparable. Having said that, my understanding is to get them as close in age as possible.

Keep us updated!!!!

So excited for you.

@FollowTheCourse , Omly you know what is best for your heart and Home :) and sphynx slush fund :)

I do have 4 adoptee sphynx. 2 neutered brother littermates , 1 retired spayed breeder female and 1 thr youngest neutered male
So you know my biased input :)

Advantages of littermates - their amazing together- very bonded - fun fun fun
Disadvantages - any genetic health issues - can be a risk of a double dose of vet bills and heartache

Advantages of two at once - double trouble ! Double lovin and fun training bonding together rather than waiting and starting all over with an adult intro - kittens perhaps together at once more biddable to transition them later as an adult

Disadvantages - may bond together more than with peeps - double everything not just cost but time and
Less room on your bed for sleeping :)

I have different ages , sexes and same sex littermates -
For the first while the littermates stayed bonded - always sleeping together
The other two nearby all hogging the bed and our laps - the two littermates do share a tighter bond I do notice -
One always more dominant caring over his brother - very special to see but also a curse when ome should pass before the other .

The other two are bonded but not as tight - nuturing - I call it the "Queen" and her underlings :)
She is chooses when and who and where they all sleep - amd of course that leaves us a sliver of the king size bed to ourselves lol
Amd there is a pecking order with all of them on my lap at the same time

Keep us updated :)

You have our well wishes with whatever you choose is best -
It's a 20 year commitment if we are blessed

If you can afford it, I say yes. It seems to be a rare thing for a cat of any breed to be able to live their whole life with a litter mate. What a special gift for your girl.

Oh my that would be like a dream come true. Litter mates are great no fuss on integration and I have always found siblings to have a nice bond right off. Plus it might, and this is a big might but it might, spare your puppers some grief as they can play together instead of bothering your dog. However that may backfire and they may tag team your poor dog lol. They are sneaky, devious like that sometimes. Blessed be you and your new Sphynx babies.

I think same age is best for them so they can run around and do all their silly kitten stuff together, my oner year old was already a bit like ugh leave me alone I just want to nap with kittens. :) They have sooo much energy and want to explore/play so having a little buddy takes some of the work off your hands and hopefully makes them torture unwilling participants (like your doggy) a bit less. For me getting another kitten around the same age helped them stop bothering the adult cat, he just sort of trained them by walking away when they bother him similar to the dog and they stopped trying to wrestle him and just played with each other.

When is Gotcha Day lol?

Next friday. :D
Maybe this weekend.

But more than likely Friday February 3rd.
Soooo excited.

It wasn't a hard decision, we have a ton of supplies, and literally the only thing we need to do is add an additional litter box.

Seeing our current kitten, her demeanor, the way she transitioned into our lives, it was a no brainer. It's a litter mate, and they were born on Halloween (my wedding anniversary), and we have twins (and they're kinda twins lol). So it was a really unique situation.

We were considering a cattery in the future but regardless, these two will remain pets, and become grumpy old ladies together.

My wife is also going to start making clothes soon!

It's already taking over our lives. Lol.

Woohoo!! Congratulations!! Only a week to go and the sisters will be reunited. That's awesome.
And so purrfectly marching with all the things in your family. It's going to be fun to have two twins in the house:).

Do you already know how you're going to name her? And do you have a pic of her?
So excited for you!

Not 100% on the name yet but we have a few solid ideas.

Here she is!

I am wondering the same thing right now. I've had our girl for almost 3 months now and I want to get her a friend. The only thing is that I have searched for another sphynx her age or near it and I am having a hard time. She is 8 months old and I might have to get a kitten sometime this year in order for her to have some company besides us. I wonder how she will do with a younger cat here, finding a sibling would be great though. I can't do the same for her because all of her litter mates have homes, but I would definitely take a sibling if I had the chance. Its an interesting opportunity.

@FollowTheCourse She is gorgeous! @MarleneQ sometimes getting a kitten is much easier as the older cat can put it in its place, less stress. Your baby is still young with kitten energy added back in to the house it should be great. We have two 4 year olds and just got a kitten. They worked out the pecking order. Usually takes up to 2 weeks for everything to settle. Some immediately get along.

Was going to go today spur of the moment to pick up her sister, but I've caught a head/chest cold and I don't want to be in the car nearly all day.

It kinda sucks, but it's only one more week.

Gives me some time to alter the cat tree and make a few other things!

Congrats. Your new naked is gorgeous. I can't wait to see Gotcha Day photos. Please take care of your cold. Lots of rest because you won't be getting any after she comes home!!!

Oh I know! We have the one kitten now, and we pick up her sister next week.

I didn't think it was fair for my wife to have to wrangle kids and TWO 14 week old kittens while I act like a giant baby.

I start my vacation next Friday when we go pick her up so I figured that's just a smarter decision.

@FollowTheCourse hope you feel better soon. Good decision to pick her up a week later. It's no fun to pick up your new sphynx and the only thing you can think of is to go home and straight to bed. And your wife be happy too:)
