I brought home my first Sphynx today after years of searching for the right baby. He was born in early February and to say it was love at first sight is an understatement. Then, since the second I brought him home he’s been glued to me. Is that normal?! I’m OBSESSED with him and my heart is so full. He won’t be meeting my other cats til we do a quick stop at the vet just to make sure he’s perfectly healthy before intros - but I can’t wait to see how they all get along.

I’ve done tons and tons of research but if there are any first timer recommendations you wish you knew at the beginning please feel free to share!

Congratulations…your life has officially changed forever.
This section of the forum has a lot of great info. Sphynx Cat Help Center

Don’t forget to bring a poop sample to the wellness check. Let us know what your vet has to say.

Have you decided on a name yet? He is adorable! Yes, better get used to having him follow you every where, including the bathroom lol. @KittySeeker123

@KittySeeker123 , Happiest Gotcha!!! He is adorable! name yet? {= Yes, sphynx are velcro busy buddies! I swear, cat , dog, monkey , baby all in one for life. can't wait for updates! all paws are family.
is he considered a van sphynx? I have always loved their alfalfa (like the little rascals character) l grey markings on their heads.

the info center and top right search box helpful to search specific topics. Never hesitate to ask question!
agree, bring a stool sample during his vet visit wellness check.

I set up a "kitty room", spare bedroom, even bathroom ( I set up with litter box, cat tree ) and did slow introductions with sniff meet n greets and cross scented hand towels, rotated free roaming , putting others in kitty safe room a few minutes a day.

(( sharing things I learned with my first ** kitty proof for life, cat trees ( I remove the hanging ball on cat trees now ( as someone shared his baby's tail getting entangled on it and had to have tail amputation, sharing for info not to alarm, something to be aware of)... kitty proof toys, plants, etc. they are heat seekers, double triple check turning on washers, dryers, dishwasher, watch stove tops! and opening ovens! I have to put mine in my bedroom if I use the stove.

they are lightening fast under feet and by doors. I always have to watch and look down when I walk, even to this day with my two 14 yr olds. I walk in and out exterior doors slowly watching when I open for any kitties peeking ready to bolt.)

you will get into a routine of spa day baths, wipe downs, cleaning ears (I never flush ears, I wet swissper cotton rounds and qtips and gently wipe out ears, vet tech told me should not flush cats ears). I do wipe downs and nail trim checks 2x's a week. in the beginning , I wore a little head lamp to see into the little nooks and crannies cleaning ears and helped see the nail quick when trimming nails. you will find products that work best for your baby. your breeder surely can share tips. there are great threads on cleaning, shampoos, etc.

when I got my first, I was so surprised how warm they are. like a heated water bottle in bed with me. and I always thought oh, she is a fragile little thing. Not , hearts of a lion and busy buddies. They eat alot too as they have a higher metabolism.

I can't wait for updates pics and tales!!! I can see how he stole your heart. I know the pitter patter of the heart, waited 15 yrs for my first nakid.
Nakids are an amazing breed. hugs n head smooches! let us know what name sticks for your baby boy! we are here for you on your sphynxlife journey!

hugs n head smooches to all paws, your baby boy, Gizmo , Rudy and Babycat!

Thank you so much for all of this!!!! The name he came with is Zuko and I think I am going to keep it - seems unique enough for his spunk. He is without a doubt the cutest! I’m hoping he loved my others as well but we will definitely be taking it slow for everyone’s sake!

When I picked him up yesterday they said he had had a bath the day before, but he doesn’t seem very clean, would it hurt to give him a quick bath in the next few days? I know usually we want to wait til they need it so we don’t disturb the natural skin oil production etc but I’d like him to feel clean and happy in his new home; not sure if that’s a crazy thought and the flip side is I obviously don’t want to overly stress him in his first few days!

Wow happy days are forever going to be in your home. If you are going to bath him The Golden Rule ÿ in the beginning is to rinse all the soap off. As any soap residue left on the skin attracts more oils in seconds. Also be prepared for an upper respiratory infection as this is a shock to your new baby and it is not uncommon when you get them home, they do get a little sick. So I would hold off on the bath and just wipe with a warm cloth for the next few days.

By the way what is your little OBSESSIONS name? He is adorable

Zuko is a cute name, let us know if it sticks. I personally waited 10 days for baths. I put a warm towel from the dryer on my lap and used water wipes and just plain warm cloth to wipe down to let adjust to big new world. echoing @Natalie Murphy reply. hugs n head smooches to all paws!! keep us updated on his wellness check. never hesitate to ask questions.

He had his first vet check today - he has an ear infection which they’re treating with drops but other than that a healthy boy! He followed me into the shower today then immediately regretted his decision when he realized it was wet in there - but I think we’re going to have great fun! Took the advice to just wipe him down and he seemed to be happy with that.
