Dilemma regarding getting another sphynx... help please :(

I have a dilemma!!  The boyfriend and I are debating getting a second sphynx.. for those who already know, my friend is getting a baby from my breeder.  I made the mistake of going with her yesterday knowing that I was going to leave wanting another baby.  It's something I was debating from the beginning, because my boyfriend and I both work 12 hour days and are both in school.  We wanted our baby (4 1/2 months old) to have a friend during the long lonesome days.
Ok so the issue..... if we get another baby is our baby right now gonna blow us off and be more interested in the new cat?!?  We want him to have a friend but we don't want him to replace us.  Lol I know it sounds weird.... everyone else is worrying about the cats getting jealous or the cats not getting along.  We're worried about being replaced and ignored   Nothing makes me happier than coming home to have my baby run up meowing and purring and practically jumping in my arms!  I get so offended and feel heartbroken when he doesn't try and follow me around everywhere or come straight to bed with us.. Lol.. omg I'm turning into a crazy cat lady!

Anyways... what has everyones experiences been with this??  My breeder has a baby girl available and she has spots like a cow... umm yup I'm definitely in love!!

Also sorry for continuously calling the cat my "baby"... he still remains nameless as the bf and I cannot seem to agree upon a name lol...

Thanks everyone... I really only have about a day to decide before the girl gets snatched up. She had people calling about her while we were there. The only thing holding me back is what I posted above...

I have 5, and 4 out of 5 love their "me" time. the 5th one.. well he is only likes attention on his terms.
I personally would get the 2nd one. I would not even think twice about it.

I was in exactly the same dilemma as you. I took the plunge and now we have 2 that love us equally! They also love each other massive amounts! I say if you can afford the upkeep and have the time for all the cleaning etc; then go for it

2 is the way to go! They will not replace you at all and they will have a playmate. I still get cuddles all the time, usually by both of them at the same time, and they have their play time together/cuddle time together. I strongly recommend a second

I started with one (Liam) last April 2012. I had debated and debated about just getting him or getting two at the same time. I went back and forth for so long until I decided to just get Liam because I had never had a sphynx before and I knew that they were a bit of work with baths, etc.

In NO TIME at all, once I got Liam home and went through the daily routine of cleaning eyes and weekly routine of nail cleaning and cutting as well as bathing, I didn't think it was a big deal whatsoever. I then sent a deposit to my breeder for a second one that would be born in the next litter (all of Liam's siblings were spoken for).

IT WAS THE BEST THING I could have done! I did find a VERY short period (like two days maybe) where Liam was more interested in Grayson than playing with me. But that was not the case at all once the initial meeting and playing took place.

It gives me so much pleasure to watch them interact, including holding each other during nap time. Please look at my photo album.

So Grayson is Liam's real brother from the same mother and father, but from the next litter after Liam's.

To make a long story short, I found out that Liam and Grayson's father was going to retire and was neutered, but had his last litter on the way along with Liam and Grayson's mother! A light bulb went off in my head! I figured that I loved Liam and Grayson more than words can explain and that this was my last opportunity to ever have a third where they would all be real brothers.

Again, it was the best decision. Again, it gives me great pleasure to see them interact together, love each other, play with toys together, etc.

At my bedtime, the baby (Simon) runs right to me on the bed and snuggles on one side in my arms. Grayson comes to my other side and Liam lets me know that he wants to go under the blanket and cuddle on my lap if I'm on my back or cuddles right up against the back of my thighs if I'm on my side. Otherwise, Liam lays on my husband.

I never feel that I don't have personal time with them individually or anything. There ARE times that I wish I had a third arm though! LOL

I live in New York and got my boys from a breeder in Florida. I flew down and picked them up each time. I've been to Florida a few times since and I avoid calling my breeder while there because I KNOW that I want to visit and I KNOW what will happen if I do! LOL LOL LOL But, it will happen eventually because I quickly became addicted to this breed. I've had cats my entire life and there is something about this breed that makes me feel like I've got part cat, part dog and part baby/child and I love every moment of it. They are like pototo chips...you can't just have one!

So don't be selfish and feel that you won't get "me time" if you add a new one. Your baby needs a friend around when you and your bf are working and in school. They will cuddle and play together for sure, no doubt and you will feel that you made the right decision I am confident of that.

Definitely get the cow girl. Your baby needs a friend and he'll always want special human time. He 'might' be upset in the beginning but that doesn't always happen. Even if he is he'll get over it eventually.

That's where the term, "COPY CAT" comes from! LOL
It wasn't until 18 years ago that I had two furry cats at the same time (I had never had more than one cat at a time before that)...I quickly realized how that term was born! LOL

I think the best thing I did for Danser was to get Loki. They are like an old married couple. She was so lonely when I started back at school and had a job on the side.
And my relationship with my 3 cats is always evolving and changing. Expecially since Loki's kidney disease has effected him.
So I guess that is a yes

I have 2 (8yr old and 3 yr. old).. couldnt live without them... both boys.. we have a mammas boy and a daddys boy... They both show their tiny bit of preference, but love on the whole family bunches and bunches..

As another poster mentioned.... If finances allow you to have 2, then it will be the second best thing you ever done..

I was where you're at right now. My 1st was a Sphynx. I was and still am so incredibly in love with him and was petrified of getting another. 11 months later, I went and got a Bambino kitten. I was skeptical of getting another because I couldn't imagine loving another cat as much as I loved my 1st. But it somehow all worked out. My relationship with my Sphynx has not changed. We still have this incredible bond of affection. Of course, it took awhile for my Sphynx to warm up to the Bambino, but after a few months they had fully bonded as well.

I would definitely say get another so that your current baby is not alone all day long.

Thank you to everyone who responded!!!!! Because of all your stories and advice I decided to get the little girl I text her yesterday after work and told her I'm ready to commit!!

I'm really excited but also very nervous... I've already been scouring the board for posts about introducing my babies. They are only three months apart and have the same dad, does anyone know if this will make a difference to the introductory phase? Perhaps make it easier and maybe they will just naturally get along better? (I can hope, right? Lol)

I'll post pictures when I go see her again right now it's looking like I'll be getting her mid August!!

I'm so happy to hear you made a good choice. I assure you that you won't regret it.

Being that they are going to be so close in age, I'm quite sure that you won't have any problems with the introduction.

My three boys are from the same mother and same father cats, except they are from three consecutive litters.

What I did was I had a stuffed toy with me each time I picked up my boys and I rubbed (or had the breeder rub) the stuffed animal all over the mother's body...making sure to really get those cheek glands too. This way I made sure that I was bringing home "mama's scent" for the new baby AND for the one, then the two that were at home already. I am absolutely convinced that the one, then the two that were at home already recognized "mama's scent"! I had NO problems with introductions whatsoever.

So being that you are getting your new baby from the same breeder, at least you could bring a stuffed toy for her along and have the breeder rub it on things that would be familiar to the baby you have at home.

I have been told that I have interesting ways of doing things. I always have the animal's best interest in mind. Anything to make things easier for them when it comes to their emotions.

I only have one Sphynx but have seven others of different breeds, they all get along well and although they love the company of each other they still love me too.

Sphynx are addictive aren't they?... I would love another but can't convince my husband to have another just yet .

Pleased you are getting the little cow girl, are you going to call her Moo?

Have you found a name for your boy yet? .... Calvin is a good name as it means Little bald one, if we had a boy I would call him Calvin...not sure my nephew would be pleased though as it is his name.
