Discolouration/darkening of scrotum?

Hi everyone, I am new to sphynxlair and have come here hoping for some advice maybe from an experienced breeder with intact males, or anyone really who may have the same situation I am experiencing...

I have tried google searching with no luck on this issue. I have a 6 month old intact Peterbald male (I know, not a sphynx but I'm hoping maybe sphynx males have similar issues) and within the last month or so, his scrotum has become quite dark.

I first I thought it was just dirt or grease and have given him multiple baths while firmly (yet gently) scrubbing at the area but it does not seem to improve at all, and in fact if anything has gotten darker.
It looks like it might be the skin itself that is dark, it's just so a dramatic because he is pink and grey and stands out like a sore thumb.

So I guess I am wondering is this something I should be concerned about? Or do some males become quite dark in that area? I do plan on showing him in The next few months and am also a little worried about what the judges may think.

Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks.

Have seen many darker in this area naturally. Best to just get them snipped Should I spay or neuter my sphynx cat?

Coloration of this area would not be a concern compared to amount of hair on a Sphynx in any area.

Thank you for your reply Catzzzmeow :) , that's good to know that it's just a natural occurrence most likely. He will eventually be a breeding male after all his health testing results come back and he gets a few TICA titles (hopefully) so no snippy for him for at least a couple years ;)

He is my first intact male, I only have him and one female Peterbald at the moment, and then a 5 year old sphynx male but he has been neutered from a young age so I have never experienced this before. The Peterbald breeder I got him from all have dark males, so they haven't experienced the discoloration before.

@meegeethesphynx best wishes at the shows! keep us updated :)
love love the sweet Peterbald faces .. precious..
your trio is adorable!

I am tagging @Gryffindor for Peterbald experience.
we have several Peterbald members who hopefully will chime in

just a side note, any change of litter? I would ask vet to rule out any yeasty or bacterial, or infection?

Thank you Yoda Mom :giggle: They are my world lol, I couldn't imagine life without them, they're just so comical!

I haven't changed litter type, but I did change brands a couple weeks back... maybe I will change them back to what I used to use and see if anything changes. I have a vet appointment for him in the new year so I will definitely ask their opinion and see. It doesn't seem to bother him at all, but is just so odd, it looks like they have been dipped in black paint :0

Here is an older post with a cat with the same. Weird blotch on sphynx scrotum

I read up a bit and it happens for some humans as well not just their scrotum but their penis can be darker. It said there can be a higher amount of blood vessels near the surface/increased blood flow to that region which can cause it. I also think we don’t see it a lot because most get snipped. Let us know what the vet says...your info will help others in the future @meegeethesphynx

That post looks almost identical to what my Archie has as well, very very interesting! Archie is a blue and white bi color so maybe that plays into it as well even though his scrotum area is pink not blue. I will definitely post what my vet may think it is when he goes in for his appointment in January.

Thank you for all this insight! It really helps, I was thinking it was just normal pigmentation but wanted other opinions for those who may have seen this before. :)

I dont know if this is helpful or not, but here goes. If your cat is pointed their colour will darken as they age a d that includes their scrotum. Whem Vito was intact, he had a lovely dark colouring on the outer edges of his scrotum while the part closer to his body was lighter.

Now that he is neutered it is not as obvious. Just wondering if this is perhaps the situation with your boy.
