Mine will answer to their names. Actually, to both their names and nicknames.

As far as doing something wrong. I have one who will sulk if he has done something wrong and knows it (ie, has an accident on the carpet) or will avoid eye contact with me if he has done something like that.

The other doesn't quite understand the meaning of "that's wrong!". But she will try to let me know IF something is wrong. for instance, once I put a litter in her box that she HATED and I didn't realize it and she refused to use the box, and kept me up for a week pawing at my face until I realized what was wrong by discovering the mess behind the box in my basement. When either of them do something wrong, I usually give them some snugglies and we figure it out together!

Max would always answer to his name, I will let czamtc also chime in and see if he has started to answer to her just yet, but he has for the most part come running.

Elvis has been home for over a month now, close to two- and he is just starting to recognize his name. He will come when called maybe 2 out of 5 times now.
As for knowing they did something wrong- Elvis knows when he is in trouble, but just doesn't care. Haha :)

Figgy knows her name, but I think that tone has a lot to do with it, sounding happy vs angry. She usually comes over either way, unless she ignores me - and I can tell she is ignoring me by body language, she won't look at me but her ears will point in my direction like she hears me and her tail flicks around all crazy. Also if she is being mischievous and I give a warning like "Fiiiiggy tsk tsk" then she will act innocent and sweet but she knows when she is doing something she is not supposed to. She is usually mischievous when she is trying to get my attention but will come over as soon as I say her name.

Leo answers to his name and come running when called, Athena not so much she keeps up the princess act well. I think it is the tone they are called in tho cause Admin or the kids will call and he does not come all the time?

As far as knowing if they do something wrong I think so, I bought some new storage foot stools yesterday for the sunroom that finally has a floor  and put them in well in no time Loe was scratching away at them like they where for him  I yelled no no at him and he ran into the other room, so yes I think if told they know so don't let them trick ya!

for my guys, I trained them to come when I call their names.

I would keep some treats in my pocket, and every so often, call their name and offer a treat. After a few days, when I called, they would come to me from where ever in the house they were, even if I didn't have a treat.

Mine know their names but ignore them quite a bit:LOL: And usually if I call 1 all 3 come running:Laugh:.

As for trouble mine know that too. It is based on tone I think, if they are on the counter or try to scratch I use a different tone, I also hiss at mine. They understand that really well and make themselves small with flat ears...... I only do that when i am extreamly mad though.

Mine all know thier names and will come if they feel like it or if they think they will get something the others don't get. Do they know they are in trouble or they have done something wrong? Yes, I think they do--it's almost like I can hear them sometimes thinking, "I know she will be mad at me and she will yell--she might even spray the water at me, but I want to do this really bad---so it is worth it. She will forgive me in a minute anyway when I come up to her and look like I feel real bad for what I did (ha ha ha). That way I can still do it!"

Nofuratu answers to "meow meow". When I used to misplace him at the flea market every weekend and people would help me look for them I would have to point out "he doesnt answer to Nofuratu, You have to call him meow meow" for him to come. They would look at me like I was nuts. I thought, like dogs, that a long name was too much for him to remember so I call him meow for short.

My hairy cat "vampir" is a mostly outdoor cat and he comes when called.

Nofuratu purrs when he is in trouble. Like if he is scratching his claws on the bed or trampling all over my face at night instead of settling down, I will yell or grab him and stuff him under the blankets and he will start to purr...and then Im not mad at him anymore. I think that is his strategy!

They are VERY smart and will answer to their names. They know when they have been naughty, too. They just hope and pray not to get caught!

Timmy comes when called, most of the time. That is the beauty of a cat; they do have a mind of their own. I'd say 85% of the time he comes when called. He definitely knows when he has done something wrong. He understands the word "no". I think it helps if you tell them no when they are behaving badly because that is the only way they will learn not to do certain things. Tim still does naughty things like getting up on the table. I am thinking of getting a cat tree...hopefully that will help solve that problem some. Anyways, hope some of this helps!

As I don't have my sphynx yet either I can't give you an answer for her. But for all my other cats, all 7 of them answer to their names, respond, answer when spoken too. Most will come when called as well. It is amazing how smart they are, I love it.

My Sphynx, Boone was 8 1/2 months old when I got him, so his breeder named him. Shortly afterward, I started calling him Boone Boone instead of just Boone. He definitely knows his name, but will only come to me when he wants to. Also, he does know by my tone of voice when something he's about to do is wrong. & he definitely recognizes this hideously playful laugh I do when I want to initiate playtime with him. He'll find the nearest carpet to get into his pounce position, & then we get a lil' crazy together.

Iggy totally answers to his name, and comes whenever I call him, no matter where in the house he is - he's also pretty smart and will respond when I mention the names of a couple of my friends that come over regularly, too (i.e. Casey, Trevor). It's funny, the only name he doesn't know is mine - but I guess maybe that is because no one ever says my name!

He's one of the more vocal cats I've met, but purposefully, if that makes sense. He doesn't meow unless you are talking directly to him or he wants something and is trying to communicate what that is to me. He definitely knows when he does something wrong, too. He usually starts meowing in a very guilty way. I definitely got quite a talker!

Haha....stuff him under the blankets. This is a familiar scenario here.

Both my boys know their names....if they respond or not is an entirely different story

9 times out of 10 Georgie will come when I call him. And talks while he is coming. lol I haven't figured out if the talking is "Yay, I'm so happy to see you!" or "What do you want NOW??"

Bell and Beau answer to their names and nicknames, unless they are mad at me. They come if I tell them to follow me also. My friend who watches them at her house when I am out of town says that she wishes they would do that with her. Her house is like a cat spa to them so why should they listen while they are on vacation?LOL
