Excited and nervous all in one!

Hello all!

Currently waiting on my baby... I have wanted a Sphynx for many years and after many years of trying to convince my dog loving Husband that he should allow me to have the kitten of my dreams he has finally given in! (After 7 years!) LOL!
In any case I am so very excited but also nervous about the horror stories you see and hear about spraying, tearing up furnitures, litter box mishaps and "brown greasy spots" on clothes and furniture... I must say I will love him regaurdless but in all honesty from you who own and love them what am I in for... I know in a way as I have researched for many years but info on paper and the internet is... well just that info... I want to know first hand from you bare baby lovers out there!

Hi Gensen and welcome to sphynxlair! Congrats and finally convincing hubby!

As for your worries just make sure you keep nails trimmed and have places for him or her to scratch. A nice scratching post will do the trick.
Keep clorox wiped handy for wiping down counter tops and scoop litter daily you should not have any problems.

Congrats on getting a sphynx, trust me you will not regret it!
Personally I've never had any spraying or other litter box issues, if you are getting a male, make sure he is neutered while he is young (if he doesn't come neutered already!). If you provide enough scratching posts there should not be any shredding of furniture, good breeders will teach a kitten to use scratching posts!
As far as the brown stains, you can forget about white clothing! Or wash it daily. If you have leather furniture, no problem, and the stains come off easily from any washable surface as well.

These buggers are well worth any extra work (and the no hair on all your clothes makes up for stains!) as you'll be rewarded tenfold with kitty love & fun!

congrats and welcome! I am very new to being a sphynx mommy..she has only been home 2 days...so far she uses the scratch pads and kitty condo. I haven't ssen the brown spots on stuff yet but my friends cats leave it all over (small price to pay for the amazing cat you will get to know and love).
She is 12 weeks and so far uses the litter box with no issues.
I think I love her so much I would put up with anything

Here are the adjustments I had to make from having a furry cat:

Bathe the cat weekly
Clean ears as needed which was more often.
I don't have to trim nails, but they would be done weekly as well plus cleaning.
Provide cuddly blankets on beds and other furniture.
Start using darker sheets.
Lysol wipes for window ledges and door frames.

Best part: no cat hair or barf with hair balls.

Welcome to the lair, the story's are true about the brown spot but they wash off, they are a high maintenance cat and they do need alot of care, I got my first sphynx in may after 12 years of longing and even tho she's a handful and alot of work I wouldn't change a thing, infact I'd love to get another, there personalitys can't match a fur babies there just unique and a real treasure, you'll definitely need some baby wipes, epi-otic (for ear cleaning), dark blankets, a microwavable heat disc is always a great idea too, 2+ litter trays, and safety proof your house, your baby's going to explore every last inch of it lol

This can happen with any animal of course...except maybe the greasy spots. Spaying or neutering greatly reduces chances of spraying....feliaway can help a lot too with those issues. I have no issues with her tearing up furniture...little bit of litter box problem that I am not sure still what that was due to...her not liking the litter or stress over the other cat we had or what. I changed the litter to a softer type and she has used it consistently ever since. I honestly do not have issues with greasiness oddly...I hear about it a lot on here but I don't have that issue with mine at all...she is not even close to greasy.
