Hey everyone
I’ve had my kitten since early October. He had been treated for coccidia before coming home even though he tested negative. His litter
Mates. were positive. I retested him at my vet and he tested clean for coccidia and other stuff. They did the float and an antigen test. first week home he had normal-soft stool. But then a week later he was having pudding-liquid stool. All over his tail and back legs ever single time DX he gets it everywhere. We switched him to a sensitive food. Not the one the vet wants because I can’t afford and won’t do prescription/ high end like hills or royal canine. But he is on authority sensitive stomach turkey and rice kibble and authority kitten pate one can a day. Vet suggested try out some pumpkin mixed in to his pate. So I tried that for a while but it didn’t help a whole lot. On a whim and desperation I bought a jug of all-stock anti-diarrheal that I’ve used on my dog and livestock it’s safe for cats so I’ve been giving him a dose of it each day. It really hasn’t helped much either :( it’s better but not great. I’m at a loss I’m not even sure what to try or request testing for at this point. Ontop of the diarrhea he’s been sneezing since before I brought him home and has had eye drainage and irritation since then too. The breeder just says keep applying terramycin. But I had him on it for 3 weeks straight. Helped the inflammation but not the drainage. Breeders telling me basically it’s a me problem keep doing the terramycin, that her cats are all healthy, diarrhea is normal and just keep chasing and washing him “if it bugs me”. Gizmo sees the vet next month. I can’t afford to go any sooner thanks to my 1 yr old cats $3.5K pancreatitis episode last month DX any ideas / suggestions I can bounce off my vet would be appreciated

Did your vet do a PCR test? They can swab the nose or eyes and it should help determine the issue. You might also discuss if the poop issue is Giardia? Texting unfortunately often comes back false negative, so many vets treat for it as it will not hurt them. @Dobbys mom 7926

Sorry to hear you're dealing with this issue.
My boy Toa had diarrhea for more then 6 months when he was a kitten. The vet did all kind of test but nothing was found. When I started him on raw food his diarrhea stopped. Now I have him on wet food and he still has solid poops. It can take a while but before you find what is causing the diarrhea!

They have not I will request one done though. I’ve asked for them to treat even though the tests are negative but keep being told no that it’s not something they do :/ but I will be firmer with my request when we go in

I attempted to start a raw diet with my one yr old and a month after beginning slowly transitioning because his stomach is sensitive, we are now left with $3.5K in vet bills to care credit >< I know it’s a great thing and natural. But after that I won’t be trying again. And unfortunately my home is far too small to try feeding in separate locations. It just doesn’t work :/ my in-laws farm cat is mostly raw diet and his fur is just amazing since the diet change. Wish it would work for us

Oh I didn't mean you should feed raw food. I understand it's not possible for everybody and doesn't work for all cats. What I ment to say was it can take a while before you find the food that works for your sphynx. At the time my boy had diarrhea for months I became really desperate and I just wanted to let you know to keep up hope!

It’s so frustrating! I just want the little guy to be healthy and not have my home to have poop traces around it D: and diet changes are hard with having to have them both on the same kibble and the 1 yr old being sensitive as well :( I’m hope it’s something that sorts itself out soon. I love them both so much it’s just getting mentally exhausting :( I wouldn’t be so anal about it but I have small children who play on the floor and the cats insist on being on and in my bed >< poopy paws and butts are a no go!

@Dobbys mom7926 , big hugs.. so sorry going thru all this. agree with asking about PCR test and as mentioned many will do a round of metronidazole for giardia in case of a false negative. also some culprits to ask vet to rule out is tritrichomonas (needs a different med ronidazole) , or crypto we have seen in some members kitties. all paws crossed you get answers and resolutions.

remind me if vet ruled out gave meds for possible URI? I know you mention you have the terramycin.

I have a kitty with IBD. Many years ago I switched to nutrisource cat and kitten food (non rx) touted for gut health, no recalls and all have solid stools now.

please keep us updated often. here for you

Im so scared to try the medication for tritrich.. my Dobby who is now 1 almost died on my last yr this time. 3 vets refused to do the testing and just tossed meds at him one on a wim decided to treat for tritrich even without a any testing. He did fine and was getting better until he spiked a 107 fever and was basically unconscious. Not sure if it was because of the meds or a complication of all things combined. Never did figure out what was wrong with him. Only know he got better until his bout of pancreatitis last month. I’m not super impressed with my luck :( Idk at this point if it’s just pure bad luck I bet part that I got two cats with chronic illnesses or if their breeders animals are just not as healthy as they say.

The vet didn’t want to do an uri panel. :( said with listening to his lungs it doesn’t sound like one and had us do the terramycin. The inflammation is gone but the boogers eyes and nose and sneezing have continued. Along with the soft stool. He goes and everytime no matter how loose or more formed his stool is just as he’s finishing he does one final push and a little blood and mucus comes out. Sorry so gross! I’m almost wondering if he has feline herpes ontop or whatever is causing the GI issues

@Dobbys mom7926 , oh my heart goes out to you with all you are dealing with your babies. I do think it is important for treating vet to be on the same page. Have you considered getting all their records ( I call and ask for an email copy of labwork, tests) and can take to a vet for a second opinion?

hugs n positive vibe head smooches, we are here for you

I live in a very rural area. I’ve tried 3 of the vets in my area and have had records transfered between all of them. But I may call around and get copies for myself to look over

@Dobbys mom7926 , checking in for updates..thinking of you.. hugs n head smooches
Little guys still acting normal kitten behavior but still sneezing, running eyes and nose. And the loose poop. DX I’m so tired. We couldn’t get into the vet until next week which is when they scheduled his neuter a few months back. So now I’m just going to bring it up when I bring Dobby in that day for his vaccine booster
