OMG, my father in law (recently "friended" on facebook) just left the creepiest/funniest/WTH/ZOMG/face-palming comment on my facebook to one of my pictures of Min.

"you wouldn't have to skin that cat to eat it"

My first instinct was defensive, then I realized the man is utterly tactless/clueless, then I wanted to comment back with something comical like "there's not much on those bones so unless there's a zombie apocalypse, the cats are not for eating", and then I decided I really had no words.

So I came here to share.

In the 1.5 years I've had Sphynx, I thought I heard it all, but Dad-in-law's comment made me go: :wideyed: :wideyed: :wideyed: :banghead: :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:

Have you ever had any really bizarro comments from people that leave you scratching your head?

Please don't turn this into a hate thread. That's not the point. :)

PS: Just because...

Little Miss Grumpy-face... NOT for EATING! LOL

@Xandria well I'm glad you decided to just scratch your head and not feed fuel to the fire. Something tells me that if you did comment back, he would just continue and continue with more comments. It's not like he's just an acquaintance that you bump into once in a while. He's "family" by marriage.

And your "just because" photo of Min shows me that she is for eating up with love and kisses not food. :)

I have to say, no one, has ever, made, any ugly, negative
comment, about Izmae.
But, there, is rude people, for everything, for, every reason.
If, we respond, to, them all, that's, all, we, would, get done, this day,
and time. From, the simplest comment, to the worst ever.
I just ignore them and think. You really don't know,
what, your talking about, what, your missing out on, or, you just
really, haven't, a clue. That doesn't just go for negative comments
about Sphynx either, it's ever day life now.
Min, is gorgeous, Max, is, Handsome.

Amusingly, I've often compared my pets to food. My darling 5e was almost named RSP for Rations (Self Portable).
I would never consider eating them, Just a dark sense of humor.
I've gotten a lot of:
"what is that?"
me: "my cat"
"Are you sure?"
me "well he's definitely mine, anyway"

@Fester -- I have a very dark and twisted sense of humour (Hubby and I joke that the cats can't ever be an alternative to turkey at Christmas because they cost so damned much), but in a million years I never expected my mild mannered, uber Christian, father in law to say something like that. LOL Could have been his meds.

I do like RSP. Do you have an MRE?

I like your response -- I'll have to remember that.

Why would anyone eat the furr of a cat instead of the cat itself? Cause the fur is gone but not the cat:). I see it as a joke, but a bad one.
I actually said something similar to a lady last winter:
I went to the vet with Toa and we travelled by train. She was wearing a coat with furr. She looked at Toa and she said loudly "what an ugly cat, it's naked!"
I answered: "well madame, that's because you needed a coat with furr".
She was very angry with my response (how dare you accusing me!). I didn't want to make the lady angry, just wanted to joke after her nasty comment on my beauty Toa. But she didn't get my sense of humor:).

@Toa and Ross -- LOL LOL. I'm howling with laughter. That's funny.

And Min thinks Toa is very very beautiful. Especially when he's dirty. In fact, she got out as I was coming in, ran to the dirty stone walkway and started to lay down on it like she was going to roll around (clearly she's been meeting with Toa lately). I scooped her up before she got herself dirty. ha ha.

I've had the usual "eek, what is that?!" And "is it like a bald chihuahua?" And "yuck, get it away from me!"
I used to want to come back with similar cutting comments when showed photos of their kids, but now i just tell them that i love her like a baby and say how sweet and gentle and loving she is. I'm the lucky one to have her in my life, these people are missing out on something beautiful.

When my mom first met Ossi she said: "He looks just like a chicken at the grocery store"... she's not a fan of pets at all and she's so afraid of our cats when she visits. That's why Ossi jumps on her shoulders every chance he gets! And she screams like a little girl, every time. This catmommy loves it....

I was stunned once when someone approached me when I was out walking with Kojak and he proceeds to tell me that Kojak looked like a dinosaur. :wideyed: :jawdrop:

What the heck did he mean by that? I just had to laugh at the comment but it certainly made me scratch my head!

Lol my 3 year old asked if our youngest cat, Peach, was a Chihuahua! She kept telling people we were getting a dog haha. :ROFLMAO:

I've had a little boy ask me if Clementine was a pig, and mostly people are interested in how there came to be a cat breed in the world with no hair. I often tell her that her ears would be delicious little crunchy piggy ears (but only in jest, I assure you!)

Of course, there is one person who continuously gives me crap about her - constant remarks about how ugly she is, how she is disgusting and looks like a scrotum, and 'Come on, you don't actually think that thing is cute' and I usually bite my tongue. Next time I will smugly inform him that Clementine is infinitely cuter and more pleasant than he is!

I haven't had any real "Ewww" comments about Pixie. Or rather, they go "Ewww" before they meet her. Then they touch her and suddenly it's the coolest thing ever.
Mind you, Pixie is very friendly anyway. My mother really isn't a cat fan -- but while we were there I overheard her talking to the cat lol.
She did remark to me how very clean and well behaved she is -- when she's not walking across a table. I think what impressed her the most is that she never touched any human food, even if unattended. She'd sniff and walk away. Mum was dead impressed lol. (I got her that way, I didn't teach her.)
But all in all, no one ever said anything to my face, at least.

I haven't had anyone say anything negative to me in a long time. I think everyone I know is used to them. Although, yesterday a friend of my boyfriend's asked if I shave them... um, no. I thought THAT was a weird question!

I've gotten that a lot. People are all "ewwwww YUCK why would you want a cat with no fur, that's just not right!" then they meet her and touch her and then they love her. I never get sick of watching people putting their hands out so tentatively like they are about to pat a snake it's hilarious. Or hearing 'wow she's so soft' or 'OMG she's so HOT!' and 'she's actually quite cute' :smug:

My husband might say something like that about our hairless cat children, but he adores them! I frequently find him cuddling on the couch with them. When I see him like that, he mutters about how they threw him down there. Haha! These sphynx and dwelves have a way of worming their ways into your heart.

My dear friend told me these are the ugliest cats ever, but now that she has met them, she changed her tune.

Best cats EVER! They are smart, funny and affectionate.

I have had two comments but not all that crazy though one did make me want to ask about glasses. Out and about I have had the classic "Why did you shave your cat" and one day I had a lady with a small child ask me "Why did you shave that dog" when pointed out it was a cat she replied " Oh I didn't know cats could walk with a leash."
