So we adopted a 2 month old Maine Coon kitten from a shelter...he was absolutely beautiful and sweet as can be. He ran around, chasing my son, Abram and loved to be held in his blanket.
We did discover through our short time with him that Abram is allergic to cats. He doesnt have a reaction to our Sphynx girls, but a few days after holding and playing with Margrave Barneby, ( my husband named the kitten this
) his poor little eyes became red and watery and eventually he couldn't open them at all. So in the end, the little kitten had to be seperate from our son and we were thinking about finding him a new home.
Margrave Barneby did have diarrhea from the moment we brought him home until he left us. He was drinking and eating just fine and we waited to see if this cleared up. By Thursday, the diarrhea hadn't stopped. And even if we did have to find him a new, loving home, we weren't going to send him in a sickly state. My husband took him to the vet Thursday and came home around 12:30 with a good report. He was treated for a parasite given to him by his mommy and everything should clear up and harden up in two days. He was still acting his cute little happy self.
At 6:30pm, Thursday, my three year old, eight year old, my hubby and myself were watching Barneby take his last breath. We had left the house for a quick run to Home depot and had put him in his carrier. I found him, laying in a massive pile of diarrhea and a bloody bum, barely breathing. James rushed to the phone to call the vet's after hours number...but i knew he wouldn't make it.
I stroked his fur and we all whispered sweet nothings to him and he was gone. What broke my heart the most, was Abram asking if we could just take him to get surgery because he was still alive....what he was seeing was the body twitching and he was still meowing, after the breathing stopped.
I asked Abram if he understood what was happening " yes, mommy, our kitten's body died, and his spirit left".
My husband talked to the vet the next morning. Turns out, the assistant may have overdosed him on dewormer.
We only had the little guy for a week and a day. We loved him. I hope we gave him enough warmth and love the short time he was here with us.
Here's a few pics I took in the short time we had him.
