Hi!!! My husband and I are adopting our first sphynx baby in a few weeks. We have done alot of research, but would love some advice about what to make sure we have on hand when we bring our little girl home! anything anyone can tell me will be very helpful. We are ELATED to say the least about our dreams of a "baby" coming true!!!
Thanks,
Tracy and Steven

Congrats.
Here is some things I think off most needed, others will help to, I'm sure.
Food & water dish needs to be glass, ceramic, or stainless steel.
Plastic gets scratched and has germs.
Water fountain, if you desire.
Throws, blankets.
Toys, Treats, good quality food.
Clothes if the baby wears them.
Good shampoo ( I highly recommend HyLyt shampoo) you can find it at amazon.
Ear cleaner
These are just some, Best Wishes.

The only "must have's" are food and water bowls, and a litterbox.

BUT
toys
blankets
Cat tree
treats
Food (hopefully the same as the breeder, or whoever you are getting her from)
Clothes
Soap (I use Dawn)
ear cleaner
Q-Tips
Nail clippers (I use normal people clippers)
Food bowls...I use stainless Steal
I also have a water fountain. The cats seem to drink more from it.

Everything everyone else said and dark sheets for your bed if he's going to sleep with you.

Our guy isn't particularly greasy, but he leaves eye goobers and bum stamps on the sheets that stain.

Even tho the sheets are clean they look like hell.

All I would add is lots of time and love! Enjoy your homecoming and bonding time. If you forget something you can always buy it

I agree, I learned the hard way. Now my sheets are brown.

Hi Tracy and Steven welcome to sphynxlair! We are happy you have found us. Congrats on your soon to be little girl. We can not wait to see pictures of her.

You have been given great advice on what you will need, and they are so right about the sheets, ours used to be cream and now they are  hmmmm not so sure but yes they always look like hell even after coming out of the wash.

I would just add checking your area for a vet that is familiar with the sphynx breed.

I giggled over the sheets being stained...it is the life of a Sphynx owner I guess. We found red sheets and red couches hide the stains the best...lol. Only a "naked" owner would ever understand...lol. Wouldn't change it for the world :)

Wow, this thread is really helpful. I've been making a list of things I'll need to have before I get my kitten, and this helped me remember a few things.

wow, i have to admit...never heard anything about the sheets. Good thing I asked. Is it mostly just from the body oils? Why the bum stamps? do they not clean their butts good?

lol "bum stamps" ....if it helps i have found the dirty oil marks where they lie and sweat usually start to go when they get over a year old. prob due to not being greasy teenagers anymore lol, husbands and boyfriends always have to comment on the butt issues but my abvice is keep wet wipes handy in every room for the butt wipe and then hear about gossip on why u have wipes next to your bed off your cleaner lol:Wink::Wink:
good luck and its alot easier then u think so dont worry. on a more adult note i would say make sure there is no electric cables to chew and dont leave any dangly type rope toys to play with unless u are there and tie up any window blind pulls out of reach. i am the biggist stress head ever and only use bottled pure water in my drinkers cus i dont like the tap water (my partner has colitis and tap water is terrible for him and one of my sphynx so both are better on "brought water") so just letting u know it is normal to feel this way ... well ok not normal but at least sphynx normal lol x

Phew! glad to know that the bum stamps aren't from poop, :Dizzy:and if it really is just an adolescent thing...I can definitely live with that! We are so excited! We should be getting our girl who we are pretty sure we will call Luna. She has the strangest markings...looks like she rolled around in some ashes in the fireplace! We can not wait to get our hand on her!!! Will be posting lots of pics!!!
Thanks for all the great advice everyone!

We have never had problems with stained sheets. One thing I will always keep on hand for a new kitten, is canned pumpkin. Cleo had bad diarrhea issues for the first few weeks. We gave her a heaping teaspoonful daily for about a month. The finer helped hugely with the diarrhea, and she loves it. Now it's a treat. Otherwise I would say to be sure any threads, string, cords and yarns are put where kittens cannot find them. Cleo loves to eat them.

Ive also been shopping for my baby that will be getting in a few weeks too, Besides all the basic health and well being materials (food bowls, litter trays, nail clippers, soaps etc) be sure to get yourself lots of toys that you can use to play with her altho i dont have a sphynx yet ive read there very energetic and can be a handful, id recommend some bath toys too to keep them interested in there bath time. Let me know how you go with her introduction :) hope all goes well for you
p.s be sure to get an extra litter tray :) better too many than not enough

I would get a good enzymatic cleaner in case of litterbox accidents in the beginning. Always use an enzymatic cleaner to clean up accidents so they don't go there again. A multivitamin wouldn't hurt either. If you home is drafty or cold, some kind of a heat producing thing--a self heated bed or a microwave disk or a heat reflecting blanket. Also very important is something to scratch on. You must provide something that's ok to scratch on if you don't want them sharpening their claws on everything. A cat tree if you can afford one--they love to climb--and something by a window so they can watch out the window--if you don't provide a perch of some kind, they will create their own--it's easier to just give them one to begin with. You should also have a carrier for to and from the vet or for trips in the car. A harness for when you go outside and if you can afford one, a pet stroller is a wonderful thing for going for long outings or to take your cat with you when you exercise. Good luck with your new little girl--may you have many years of sphynx love! There's just nothing like it.
