Hi There,

I brought home my very first sphynx yesterday so thought I'd join up here for any tips/advice I might have missed in my research into the breed :)

As a bit of an intro, my name is Jess and im from the UK. I have 2 other cats, a male ragdoll called Oliver and a female rescued moggie called Dylan (we thought she was a boy lol). I have wanted a sphynx for several years and even went to a cat show a few years ago to meet them but the very very high pricetag always put me off as i just couldnt justify paying £2000+ for a pet cat :(

But, I was very lucky to find a beautiful retired girl available within my price range :D She is 3 years old, imported from Russia and was being rehomed as she didnt take to being a mum when she had her litter last year. She is a chocolate tortie apparently. She is super friendly, not at all phased about the change in homes at all, just follows me around wanting to snuggle. She slept in my bed last night, under the covers! Her name is Agapetta. I've put a few photos of her at the end of the post, I hope you like her.

She had a caesarian for her litter and still has a bit of an "uddery" belly so im going to give that a bit of time to go up before I get her spayed. Any advice on getting those to go up ASAP would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jess

(Apparently I cant post pics! Oops!)

I got my Emma about a month ago and she is 4 years old. We got her from a shelter in the US. The one thing I think was the hardest adjustment was the weekly bathing, but that has now become something I actually look forward to weekly

Best tip I got was filling the tub up to her chest with warm water, Emma no longer fights her baths at all, she actually really likes them now

Good luck with your new baby, can't wait to see some pics. With the uttery look, Emma has that too (I would never tell her that though...haha). From what I understand, she never had a litter, but you never know. I don't think Emma's will ever go down, but she is perfect in our eyes

You can use the search button, on the top and put in

of info. But, if you can't find what you are looking for,
just ask. Someone here, usually has been through it themselves
and will gladly help.

Thank you for the welcome!

Agapetta has settled in wonderfully. She is getting on well with my other two cats although they are not at the snuggling phase yet, they mostly just stare at her like she's an alien! In all fairness, she probably does look like one to them lol.

The only problem i've had is that she has had weepy eyes since i've had her, nothing major, just leaving a bit of crusty stuff on her face and she's a bit snuffly. She is vaccinated and everything so hopefully its nothing serious, im planning to take her to the vet tomorrow to see if she needs some ABs or anything. She's eating and drinking and not overly snotty or anything so maybe its just the stress of moving thats upset her!

Hi & welcome to the Lair!
You are right, the stress of moving to a new home can easily cause a uri so just give her some time. But if it doesn't clear up by itself, she may need some antibiotics.
Btw, sphynx usually have the occasional eye booger due to the lack of eyelashes but you can just wipe those away with a wet cotton ball/tissue.

Good luck and congrats on Agapetta!

Thank you for that, its definately put my mind at rest. She doesnt seem stressed, but she has had a LOT happen in a year - coming over from Russia, having a litter (it didnt go well apparently) and then coming to me. She is bound to need some time to adjust, bless her.

My BF was not best pleased when I text him to say i was on the way home with her :Surprise: He always hated the idea of my getting a sphynx, he said they were ugly  Well.... Needless to say, he is smitten with Agapetta - he totally fell in love as soon as he met her

HI Jess and welcome! Sounds like your new girl is a sweetie!
You can post pictures in your album on your homepage, to hold us and you over until you reach enough posts to put pictures in a post.
I to think the runny eye is from stress, but I am surprised that she was not fixed while she was in for the c-section. In order to avoid any health problems I would speak to the vet and see when you can have that done, the sooner the better.
So glad your BF loves her. before you know it he will be sending you looking for another.

I have added a photo onto my profile, not a great one of her but I hope you like it! :)

I will be getting Agapetta spayed ASAP, I want to give her a few weeks to settle first. My male cat is neutered and she wont be going outside so no chance of kittens :D

I dont think she had her litter too long ago, the c-section scar is healed well, but looks relatively recent. I imagine they were planning to perhaps have another litter from her in the future at the time of the section, I believe she didnt raise her kittens which is the reason she isn't having any more.
