Hi there,

In 8 days I'll be welcoming a 13 week old naked (Maximillian von Strange) into our home... and I'm starting to become anxious. I think my primary reason for posting this here is to console myself that I am not alone... that others shared the same... angst.

I'm so excited and happy. And many times I come close to tears thinking about bringing Max into our home.

But I keep wondering: Am I making the right decision? Will I be a good Sphynx parent? Am I prepared for all contingencies? Do I have enough information to get this new chapter going? What if I do something wrong? What if Max turns out to get really sick or develops severe behavioral issues? Have I forgotten anything?

Thanks for listening.

I too was anxious before I got Bella who is now 5 years old. I do not regret bringing her into our family, she is a joy! I think your being anxious is normal, this is a new experience for you. You will probably feel that way the first time you do anything, like bath time or nail cutting. However you will become an expert after no time at all. Good luck with your new addition.

Make a conscious choice to stop being anxious there's only one gotcha day you don't want to spoil the experience just sit back breathe and enjoy the experience that's a far better option and remember if you at anxious his going to sense that and you don't want him too just enjoy its a very special day :) if you forgotten something that's ok you can get it after nothing is life or death as long as you have remembered litter, food and blankets you're set! The rest is just gravy

I have gotten a flair up of anxiety after adding both Timmy and Winston to the family. In the end what you need to do is just relax and let them settle in. As I have found, I was anxious for no reason. Sometimes watching too closely with "anxiety glasses" causes you (and by that I really mean me) to create problems that don't even exist.

Enjoy your little one. They are only a kitten once and you want to cherish every minute of it!

It is very natural to be anxious. Our Babas was 10 when we got Jouët and I was so anxious. Not having had a kitten in 10 years I felt like a newbie all over again. Anxiety will leave as soon as you decide to just be excited! Gotcha Day is almost here!

Thanks, everyone. I really appreciate your advice and comments. I think after this weekend, after I pick up a couple more things (LOL), I'll settle down. Hubby is sooooooo excited too. It's all we can think about!

@Xandria I have been following your posts on the lair and I think you would win an award for the most prepared sphynx-parent-to-be ;) so I think the answer to "Do I have enough information to get this new chapter going?" is a big YES!!!!! :)

Try to relax and you will learn anything else you missed as you go.

Awww, thank you, @zoinks . The second I see Max in the nude (him being nude... not me... well, not until night... um... anyway), all my OCD will likely vanish.

I started getting the anxiousness, the closer it come to gotcha day.
I couldn't hardly wait to get Izmae in my hands. When, I did, it was
like having a baby to me. Because I don't have kids, by choice.
She is for a fact my baby girl.
It just gets greater as each day goes by. So try to calm down and enjoy.
You will be a fine Sphynx Mum.

I am sure you will be great! I asked myself the same questions before I got mine. He is only 6 months so I recently went through the baby kitten stage! If you have instagram feel free to add me/direct message me if you have questions and see pics of my little guy
I would love to help you if you need it, I can honestly tell you that the first few weeks are difficult but enjoyable and so worth it. Munnkie has adjusted and is a lot easier now, but still a handful! ;)

Hey there!!
I'm so happy to see you're finally doing it! After all that hard research--it's time!

There's a lot of anxiety when it comes to buying any sort of animal, though knowing that you already love Maximilian so much already tells me you'll be a great parent! Sometimes it's best to dive into new things with both feet, because sometimes it's hard to prepare for something that you've never done before. If any problems pop up, or even any questions...You know that everyone at the forum will be there for you!!

I think everyone is right when they say, the more anxious you are and look for problems, there will be more. I knew NOTHING about sphynx cats when I got Moses and our gotcha day was just fine! I had an older friend drive down to get him with me, a 5 hr drive, so she could hold him in the carrier in the car. We packed lunches, water, food, a little litter box, etc. Everything went smoothly. We made all of the obligatory stops...her house to show her husband, my job, eventually we made it home. He got the URI, and had a stomach issue and also urinary crystals. But I got in contact with his breeder and found my vet to be more believe able than hers and spent the first few weeks winging it.

I didn't have the lair, and soooo wish I did. This place has an amazing amount of support, and a plethora of information. There are a ton of senior members here like myself and others who are just a message away to tell you things like, oh, that's normal, or get to the vet, or to just love your baby, he'll be fine!!! None of us will tell you're crazy because we're all in the same boat...wrapping our arms around a little warm bag of purring skin tonight, knowing there are a whole bunch of people out there who are our friends!!

Thank you, everyone. Seriously, you're all so incredibly supportive and helpful. 5 more sleeps and I'm feeling much less anxious, and have now entered total excitement mode!!!
