Hey everyone:Laugh: I have a question...Do you leave your babies food bowl full and let him or her eat as they please?? for the last year..i would give capone i would say approximate a cup of dry food a day and one half of wet daily..I brought him to the vet monday and he told me that capone was bordeline fat..he weighs 7 lbs at a year..and also he told me he has lots of ear wax but i clean them every three to four days..So he Switched his diet to Science diet Z/d to see if he has an allergy and the big part is he told me to only give him 3/4 a cup of food!!! OMG capone eats that in 2 min the sec i put it in his bowl...then the rest of the day he is crying at the bowl and me!!! I have noticed he already lost weight in five days and i dont like it:Sad: I already spoke to the breeder he told me i should have food out all day..So idk:Dizzy: Any advice would be appreciated tons

Well it depends on the cat and everyone does it different. My mom leaves her food bowls full and her cats eat as they please, but they are also a healthy weight. Now if I did that to Akali, she would eat till she popped! So I feed her a 1/4 cup in the morning of dry food, and another 1/4 cup again at night, she doesnt like wet food. She is used to it so she doesnt complain. She knows that she gets fed twice a day and when shes done, shes done. So if your cat is over weight, you might want to do what I do, because though you feel bad for your cat, as long as you feed it the proper amount so that its not starving, it should be ok. Because you dont want your cat to keep stuffing its self because overweight pets die sooner and have way more complications.

I fed Sealy raw for the first 5 months or so that I had him. Then there was a salmonella recall on the dog food I was giving my pups and I got paranoid (don't ask why because I have no idea now) about feeding him raw meat. This doesn't make sense because kibble that isn't handled properly (ie wash your hands after touching it, etc) can get you just as sick as raw meat can if it's mishandled. Ok, anyway I switched Sealy to a high quality grain and potato free kibble and wet food. He would eat about a cup free fed through out the day and then 1/2 a can of wet food split into a morning and night time meal (so 1/2 of a can at each serving). He started getting the signature Sphynx belly in a short time. Within the last month, I switched Sealy back to raw and he's slowly loosing his belly. Now, he wasn't very chubby to begin with and he's still loosing it some too so I look at his weight loss as a positive thing. If your cat looses weight too fast, their body breaks down the fat for fuel. Well, a cat's liver can't process all of that fat burning well and it can make your cat really sick. I forget what it's called, but if you Google it you should be able to find more info about it.

Now, your cat doesn't really need food out all the time. Sealy eats twice a day and is fine with that (well except for when Hadyn is eating her extra meal, but he's even accepted that now). What you really should check into is finding out if he's loosing weight too fast. If he's not, you could measure out his daily ration and then give him a little at a time so that he has to take his time eating. Maybe it will help him not feel so hungry.

My babies get a 1/4 cup 3x a day (they are between 6-14 months old) we also give them each about 1.5 oz of wet food with breakfast and dinner. They know exactly when feeding times are lol. It seems like a lot of people say to leave food out at all times but mine would eat it all up and scream for more every 10 min lol. Hope u figure out what's best soon :) good luck

I give Darwin half a can of wet in the AM and the other half in the evening. His dry food bowl is left out all day and refilled as needed. He grazes throughout the day never eating too much at one time. I think that, just like humans and dogs, some cats are better at regulating their food intake than others. I also know that some people will disagree and say that grazing goes against a cat's natural instincts, but I have seen that it can work.

In general I give two handfuls of kibble at night mixed with their turkey and egg broth that I make them, about 1/4 to 1/2 cup. In the morning there is usually quite a bit of kibble left over and I will mix broth with the left over kibble...unless there is not a lot left, then I will add one handful of kibble.
