Our boy Edward is currently on clindimyacin for an anal gland abscess after not being able to tolerate amoxicillin clav 6 months ago. So far the clindimyacin has made him have very watery stools since the 3rd dose. Yesterday we went back to vet and picked up forti flora and he had his first packet in his food last night then we paused antibiotic yesterday all day. We resumed antibiotic this morning. I had noticed he had watery stool in his litterbox overnight and then had another watery stool an hour after we resumed his antibiotic this morning. I’m wondering if anyone has had their baby on forti flora- will we see results maybe in a full 24-48 hours? I am pausing the antibiotics again until I see firmer stool but I do not want to pause for to long.

@sphynxmommy1 awh, Edward...

members will surely chime in about forti flora.
I would follow vet's instructions about the clindamycin. sharing I personally had clindamycin for a dental issue and had to switch to a different antibiotic. not sure if doxycycline would be an alternative for Edward.
(you can also ask your vet if non rx nutramax proviable -DC would be an option my vet recommended it to me with my pup and kitty. there is an rx version too Nutramax proviable forte )
hugs n positive vibe head smooches

sharing top right search box results for Forti Flora

Thank you both so much. He just has a very sensitive tummy. We withheld the clindimyacin for 2 days and gave just the forti flora probiotic. It’s not helping to firm the stool yet. I decided tonight that we cannot keep waiting- so I gave him a dose of the clindimyacin and he will get the probiotic late tonight and we will see how he does in the morning. He’s supposed to have had 10 days on clindimyacin- so far he has only had 2 1/2 days of doses due to the diarrhea. Our next option is that covenia injection that I’m afraid of. My vet was trying so hard to get an antibiotic that would work for him because we both are worried with his sensitive system how he will do once he has that covenia injection- as my vet said , once it’s administered we don’t know how he will react and all we can do is supportive care if he doesn’t do well, no way to stop a reaction. So I’m jus praying we get thru these doses at this point. I asked for doxycycline as an alternative but they’ve not tested the bacteria as they decided to just start preparing for surgery to remove the gland- so they’re not convinced doxycycline will work. I’m hoping once they remove it and test it he can have doxycycline if he requires an antibiotic after the surgery.

@sphynxmommy1 , did they do a stool sample check before any surgery to rule out any possibility of tritrichomonas or crypto we have seen some get a diagnosis of with stool issues.

following for updates.

So far it seems to be helping a little. I stopped antibiotic last Monday and slowed the forti flora dose to only a half packet each day. We are still having watery diarrhea but it seems to be not as much and not as bad. His appointment is this Thursday thank goodness and we will have a recheck and blood work and schedule the surgery. I am so scared but I know it’s best for him and for me. I do not want to see him in pain of having these issues anymore.

@sphynxmommy1 , awh, hugs n continued positive vibes... sharing my vet recommended Nutramax proviable DC , non rx version and it worked well. there is also a stronger proviable forte version you can ask your vet if would be indicated for your baby.

remember... NO Ketamine anesthesia if you do surgery. it can have a rebound effect on heart if unknown underlying heart conditions. I have vet mark all my pets charts NO Ketamine. my vet uses gas Isoflurane instead and said she also has other anesthetics she uses on exotic breeds.

we are here for you. all paws are family.
