Hi! Some may already know me as I've posted some cat questions before I got my little guy - Frank.
Frank is my first cat. He's a 3 year old rescue and I just got him last night. He is such a lover.
I was so worried because I've always been a dog person and I was concerned about having the right personality fit with my new cat. It was love at first sight. I arrive at the rescue woman's house and she escorts me into the bathroom where she had him staying in for my arrival. Immediately he jumps into my arms and begins nuzzling on my neck and hair. I couldn't have asked for a better greeting. So needless to say he's very friendly.
When we got home I noticed he pee'd in the crate. The ride was about 2 hours and I thought it was a little odd that he pee'd in the crate. Anyway so when we came home we took a soupy washcloth bath and he spent plenty of time perusing the house. I showed him his litter tray several times (I'm toilet training him right away so I have the litter kwitter on the floor in my bathroom with litter in there). He was active some of the night - walking around and then jumping back on the bed to snuggle but he had no problem getting under the coves and snuggling down inside. Of course every little noise he would poke his head up to check it out.
This morning we slept in and he was sleeping peacefully completely under the covers - even after I got up and starting cleaning the house a bit. He would pop out of the covers and check things out for a minute, get a quick pet and then go back under the covers.
There's 2 things I'm hoping that will go away once he fully settles in. He has absolutely no appetite. The rescuer said he didn't like the food he was getting with her so she said go ahead and feed him the Merrick that I bought. I think he ate a tiny bit at night of dry. Today I mixed in a little of the wet and he has no interest in it. Now it's soggy and I'm not sure if he's going to eat that at all.
The other thing is he is not using the bathroom at all and he's not even interested in the 'litter box'. I checked the house throughly this morning to make sure there were no mistakes from last night and so far so good. Shouldn't he be at least peeing after several hours of nothing?
I had a slight scare. I have a hole in my bathtub from an old repair that is in a tight little corner inbetween the tub and sink. Well Frank found it and entered into the inside of the tub. All I could think of is him getting stuck and having to bust the tub open to get him out. Thankfully with a slight bang on the side of the tub he decided to back out. The whole is now sealed.
He's so much more of a lover then playful. Perhaps with the right toy he'll be more interested or maybe he just needs some time to settle in.
