I am trying to looking into a less expensive way to order the raw meat for the food. I use BiTR to mix up my food.

What do you do if you order a huge bunch of meat that comes already frozen? Do you thaw it, mix it, and then re-freeze? Is this safe? Does it compromise the meat? I've never been able to figure out if that's a good idea or not?

I did that with some of the meat I bought - Im still on my first round of meat (new to raw), and he doesn't seem to notice any difference. So I think that you could say that its probably not the best thing to do - but doesn't hurt either I think.

My meat comes frozen. I thaw it in the fridge for 24 hours and then make the cat food... and then refreeze in portioned containers.

That's good to hear. You've never had any issues with the meat being "off" once thawed for the second time? That's my biggest concern. I've always been under the impression that once you thaw frozen meat, you shouldn't freeze and thaw again??

I do the exact same thing @Xandria does. Mine comes frozen in 2 lb. chubs and I thaw it out for 24 hours, make a batch and portion it out and freeze it. To thaw out the portions I leave it on the counter when I leave for work and when I come back home for lunch its perfect, still chilly. I've never had a problem with it smelling or being off. It stays fresh for a long time.

Cats really don't care about the burst cells in the meat tissue. I wouldn't do this with a prime cut of steak (hell, I wouldn't freeze a prime cut to begin with), but meat for cats... refreezing is fine.

Max now goes through 1.5 half pound jars of food a day. I always make sure there's 2 in the fridge. When 1 is emptied, I grab another from the freezer, stick it in the fridge behind the one that's already there, and it's thawed in time by the time I need it.

Once warmed and served, I only let it sit out a maximum of 20 minutes (it's usually gone on 5 minutes tops).
