Cats sticking their tongue out is often completely normal—and it can be pretty funny! I know I find it entertaining.
Here are the most common reasons:
They forgot to put it back in: After grooming, a cat may become distracted and leave the tip of its tongue hanging out. This is sometimes called a “blep.”
Relaxation: Cats may let their tongue slip out when they’re very relaxed or sleeping.
Grooming: Their tongue can remain out briefly after licking their fur.
Dental issues: Missing teeth, gum disease, or mouth pain can make it harder to keep the tongue inside.
Nausea or illness: If tongue-out behavior is new or accompanied by drooling, vomiting, difficulty eating, or excessive swallowing, it can indicate a problem.
Overheating or breathing trouble: Panting with the tongue out isn’t typical for cats. If a cat is breathing with its mouth open, especially at rest, it should be taken seriously.
Let’s see those “blep” pics in the comments!!!!
