We are just about a month into Spring and here in the Northeast in the US we are seeing a real change in the weather (finally warming up and things are in bloom.) Thought I would share some normal changes you might see in your cats during this time of year. Cats can experience "spring fever," by that they mean increased energy (roomie zoomies), cats will often eat more and can have heightened mating behaviors. As days lengthen, they become more active, vocal, and affectionate—or sometimes restless. Increased sunbathing and a higher urge to roam or escape outdoors are also common. What changes if any have you seen in your cats? Ours are definitely sunning more and eating more.
"Spring Fever" Energy: Indoor and outdoor cats often have bursts of energy, increased playfulness, and vocalization.
Reproductive Behavior: Unspayed/unneutered cats will start their breeding season (heat), which can mean howling, spraying, and increased efforts to escape and mate. Another reminder why spaying is so important.
Increased Activity & Roaming: As weather warms, cats spend more time sunbathing or watching birds and bugs.
Appetite Shifts: Studies indicate that cats may spend more time eating in spring.
Potential Allergies: As pollen and parasites (fleas/ticks) increase, cats may display itchy skin, excessive grooming, or sneezing.
