Fuzzy Spotted Babies

Hi Guys!

We had a wonderful surprise last night- not just two babies, as our vet expected, but three and they all are vigorous and healthy looking- I am tickled pink!

Even more surprising, two babies MIGHT be blue (nonstandard color- but we don't care- we love them anyways!). They are soooo cute!

Momma would hiss and get angry whenever I turned on my camera- so I didn't get many photos. But babies are... Apollo (gold BST), Ben (possible blue boy) and Celeste (possible blue girl). (I say possible- because this breed can have a fever coat which frosts the coat and then develops into the normal color on rare occasion- so it might be that, but genetically, they may indeed be blue!).

The Blue babies are eating perfectly- Apollo is still figuring nursing out, but I have high hopes for them all!

Yep, if you look at the pic with Momma looking right at you- he is going under her front let and has his head up near the blue babies He blends better with Momma then they do!

She's an F1 Savannah- and these babies are F2s.

Thanks for pointing Apollo out for me in the first pics--I was able to see him then. And thanks especially for the individual pics of Apollo, Benjamin and Celeste. They are precious. Where would solid blue come from?

Gorgeous! The breed facinates me! Are the parents large? Don't they tend to be much bigger than the average cat? Ok and a crash course on the F2 staus pls? Would I have to mortgage my home? lol

The blue babies aren't solid They are spotted, but at this stage, they have fuzzies and it's hard to capture via the camera. The blue was a surprise, but makes sense genetically...

Mom is an F1 Savannah- Dad was a Serval, Mom was a blue and white domestic. Blue is a dilute genetic marker.

Dad carries for solid black (standard color). Put solid black with dilute and you get blue!

So they are pet babies- not standard colors- but the one boy IS standard. Doesn't matter for him because he is an F2, so infertile, so regardless, is a pet too

Wow, F2 makes them infertile? Like a mule? do they still need to be spayed/neutered? I mean do they still behave sexually if not fixed? I love how you drop these interesting bits

Yeah, typically, males from F1 to F4 are infertile (although a rare F4 has been fertile) and then F5 are kinda fertile and F6s and F7s are where are males are proving their fertility.

YES, we neuter them still. They will still want to breed and will spray. My male F1 was neutered the week he came home

Yep, just the males are infertile... The interesting twist is- that's why the F1 females are crazy expensive, but if you want a lower gen male that's NICE- he can be just as crazy expensive! It's also why SV kittens tend to be a bit costly- it's an expensive breeding program to get into.

Wow Those kitties are so precious! Thanks for the education as well. I have a son that is 18yo that wants to get a Serval (we are suggesting a Savannah instead) at some point. I knew they were crazy expensive and now I understand why. It's way off in the distant future for him to actually get one but I can see we have a lot to learn before going down that road with him.

Ask him if he likes pee. Because if he likes pee- a lot of pee- all over his house, electronics, bed, etc, get a Serval I love Servals! BUT they can't live in the house for long due to spraying- and that's regardless of spay/neuter.
