There was a huge push years ago for grain free for dogs and cats…then there was a connection to heart issues in dogs, BUT it was researched further and the issues were due to certain ingredients and yet some people only heard the words grain free and swore off grain free not understanding it is still about some ingredients…not all grain free.

In July of 2018, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) began investigating the potential link between certain diets and canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), a cardiac disease characterized by decreased pumping function and increased heart size. Veterinary professionals are seeing an increased rate of DCM reported in dogs and cats eating diets with main ingredients such as exotic meats (kangaroo, pork, lamb), legumes (lentils, peas, beans), or potatoes, the main ingredients often found in diets marketed as grain-free.
I had a talk with my vet as we have fed grain free for years and he reiterated the same info I just shared above and specifically spoke about legumes being the main issue. We continue to feed 2 of ours both wet and dry grain free (the other is on prescriptive food.) So again it is important to research the ingredients and always remain open with your vet to see if there is any new studies that have come out. @cindylou1

We are on grain-free Josera Kitten for a month now. Our vet hasn't said anything against it, I just noticed my cat was still hungry after eating a good portion of normal Josera kitten dry food. So gave the grain free a chance. Don't see any changes in his health but it feels like he is even more hungry now. I don't know if it's the food brand itself or the grain-free thingy but I don't really like it. Will be probably forced to switch to Vet Concept which worked wonders for our cat. Sad part they don't have food for kittens, hopefully it's not too damaging for a 5 mos kitten...
I've always fed only dry and just switched to grain free and 1 of my boys tummy is a lot better.
