I know....I wonder if Habibi has some Cornish Rex in her pedigree somewhere? She has had several litters and these are the first hairy kits we've ever had.

I will give her that kiss--and hectic is right! But the mamas are doing most of the work so far. I had to take Habibi and the kits to the vet yesterday--Habibi was bleeding more than I liked and was lethargic--I thought she might have retained a placenta or still had another kitten up there...so my sister came to help and we loaded them all up in the car and off we went. They gave her an unltrasound and sure enough--there was a retained placenta. She got some sub-q fluids as she had lost a significant amount of blood, and some antibiotics. She perked up immediately from the fluids, got home, ate, and nursed her kits again. This morning she passed the rest of the placenta--but they can get horribly sick from retained placentas. The vet gave her Clavamox. so nothing will harm the babies. Today she is doing great--still a bit of bleeding, but not any more than you would expect post delivery. Hectic--LOL...with a capital H! But when you breed, all the drama comes with the territory.

I don't think Habibi notices about Pewnee--Pewnee only lived a day and a half during which time Habibi wasn't feeling well....

Bless your breeder's heart for sleeping on the floor next to her queen....I like this breeder! Don't know who she is, but I like her dedication. Retained placenta are risky business--emergency spays aren't that uncommon. If your queen gives birth when you aren't there, you can't account for the placentas. And if you aren't on top of it, you can lose her. Glad your baby's mama is ok now.

Aww, they're so precious! Hey, my middle name is Marie! & that male Sphynx that needed rehoming in MA was named Waldo (Calvo). Thats a mystery. No one who was interested in him has heard from her.... myself included... after she offered to drive him here to me and all. Oh, well. Your babies are beautiful, Susi. I'd love to be surrounded by numerous Sphynx. You're so lucky.

Thanks everybody! I moved Habibi's bassinette into the living room with the other cats--just won't let the others into the bassinette--and Habibi is no longer crying and depressed. I need her to be a healthy, happy and calm mama. Lack of socialization is a serious thing. My cats are used to having lots and lots of attention and while isolating the new kits is a good thing to do, the mental stress to the queen can cause her to get depressed. Depressed animals aren't healthy ones. And my kits are handled and loved and kissed right from day one. They hear my voice, they hear Boo screaming for the girls, they hear the tv, they hear my dog and the vacuum cleaner and life as it is in our home. I think it matters. So as long as I can give them some relative privacy in their nest, that should be good enough. My vet and I have had several chats about this and he agrees with me.

I was sad to hear of pewnee, but I am sure she knew how loved she was here and now she is at peace.

If they're not sure of something they'll just watch for awhile and then jump in to join the "new thing". I would not have any other breeder than Susi!

Thank you Susi but I"m not the sweet one! Re: Suzi... sigh .... It's an ongoing battle at every meal. Sometimes she wants to eat raw, other times not. So I'm doing very small meals 8 x's/day w/SEB in it. I may do a fast of 24 hours to calm her stomach down and only give her Pedialite and SEB then start her back on raw rabbit again. I did break down just to get her to eat premium canned food (wow! wicked expensive vs raw) and Kitty Crack! She ate it like crazy and gained 4 oz. Then she started losing interest in that too and her poops were soupy and OMG smelly! Plus getting on her feet at least twice a day then dunking her feet under the faucet is not fun for either of us (my palms are killing me!).... I am also giving her cottage cheese and/or mixing in plain yogurt to give her some probiotics thinking the Panacur may have wiped out in good flora. I'm expecting some in treat form coming to me some time today. I'm surprised that nothing seems to be working or maybe I'm too impatient as in expecting over night results that happened in Dr. Spock's case when he was the same age!

From research I've learned that this bout of diarrhea is happening in the small intestine because it varies from liquid to soft, smelly, HUGE pile, yellow in color, and flatulence (talk about SBD's! ). If not well in 2 more weeks, I will take a fecal sample to the doc to see if there is something else going on.

You're absolutely right in being as perplexed as I am! She was perfect in all ways until the vomit of a HUGE hairball of black rabbit and then teething. That's all done and they are gorgeous!

Spock is doing great and now is protecting Suzi from the bully Pickles! Pickles flew through teething BUT he now has 4 canines. The adult teeth came out next to the milk teeth on both sides. So odd to see but it's called Malocclusion (incorrect bite) and they'll have to be pulled as it will cause problems. http://www.medicinenet.com/pets/cat-health/dental_problems_in_cats.htm Oh! BTW remember when we were so worried about his weight and muscle tone???? Tell your specialist he's at 7.2 lbs and muscle tone is fabulous! I love his personality too, such a cuddle bug and so easy to train. If he sees me coming and he's on the counter, he immediately jumps down. I only had to use the squirt gun 2 times to stop the counter surfing. Can't do it w/Suzi as I feed her up on the counter so she can eat her food w/o Pickles scoffing it all down. She eats her food sooooo slowly!

Wow, thanks for the info--had never heard of malocclusion in cats--poor Pickles--when will they have to be pulled? The article you linked to said it should be done at 4-5 months. How old is Pickles now? The baby teeth need to be pulled so the bite can correct itself, right?
And poor little Suzi--I wonder what vomiting up the big hairball had to do with anything. Except if she is like some of my others--Moody vomited one of the raw meals he ate and now he's talked himself into not liking any of the raw--having a heck of a time getting him to eat it, so I caved and am giving him crack and canned. Will try to reintroduce him to raw also--slowly. But once they get it into their heads that the raw made them sick, they don't like to eat it after that. That is what happened to me last time. They have now decided that they HATE the turkey. So I won't be ordering any more of that. The only one that still likes it is Candy Cane....
I swear, one thing gets out of alignment and it's like the domino effect. I sure hope little Suzi starts feeling better soon.

Same here Susi, never/ever have I heard of it or see it with all the kittens/cats I've raised in my lifetime (and that's a lot! ). He' turned 6 mo old about a week ago and is a HUGE CHOW HOUND! So this is now slowing him down one iota! When i checked him again this morning, I noted that the adult canine is right in front of the canine milk teeth. They apparently only pull if the bite is way off. Being a laymen, and just a guess, I'm hoping that it'll be fine and not have to pull them. We'll see when he goes in for neutering what the doc wants to do.

I hear ya about them turning up their nose. One day they're scoffing it down and next day they're turning their nose up at it. I've learned w/Dr. Spock to just put the baggie back in the freezer and wait a week. He invariably will eat it again. Suzi is now into chicken and eats voraciously in the morning and tapers off the rest of the day. BUT... god forbid you cook a chicken w/wild rice! She will hunt you down and pester you to death to eat your chicken. I finally had to squirt her which lasted all of 3 minutes...
LBR: puddding like poop almost firm and not smelling... Hopefully tummy is on the mend... sigh... Gave up on the SEB and decided to let mother nature take it's course and let the food do the work it was designed to do! No need for me to mess it up more...

I think Elvis may have had some malocclusion going on when he was teething. He turned six months old about a week and a half ago, so him and Pickles aren't far off in age.
When his 'big boy' teeth were coming in his new canines came in right in front of his milk teeth, and he had four 'fangs' for about a week. It looked pretty painful, but I figured the new ones were just pushing out the old.
Here's a pic I took of it, not the best- it's kinda hard to tell...but is this what you are talking about?

Sandy, keep me informed about the dental work and if he has to have something done, I'll share in the cost. It's only fair.
Sounds like Suzi is a wee bit better---sometimes I think you're right--we just have to let the food we're feeding do its job. Lulu's poo is FINALLY way, way better. No more poopy feet, tail and floor around the litter robot. Now if I could only get Moody on board with the raw again, I would be a happy, happy woman. He ate it the first day, then ate too fast and vomited--now he thinks it's bad juju and won't touch it. Dulcinea and Boo almost always turn their noses up at it too. But I fed the super chicken mix tonight and Dulce ate it with gusto, as did Boo! Neither of them will eat the rabbit. Everybody seems to like the super chicken and the goose and the pork was also a big hit. This time I am also trying lamb supreme mix, regular mutton, goat, beaver and ostrich. Omitting the turkey and cutting way down on the rabbit---and trying some new things. I'm also getting the chicken supermix, whiting fish, goose, and pork. I will probably be eating hot dogs. ROFLMAO!!!
Also, we are going through my supply faster than I had anticipated--I only have a few containers left and it's only the 15th. I am ordering 87 lbs this time. Heck--why don't I just have a freight train pull up next to my house and unload the meat??? LOL It's costing me roughly $3.00 a lb. including the drop off fee. This better last me longer than one month. But with lactating queens, they are really hungry---and by the end of next month the babies will be beginning to eat solid food too. Hope it's enough food. I hate to have to go backward and give the canned and dry again.

Susi: Thank you for the offer about Pickles teeth. When he goes in for the snip-snip, I'll have the vet check his mouth out. If he sees that there are other ones that will cause a problem, I'll have him pull the milk teeth while he's under sedation. I don't see that happening and I'm trying to put off the snippy thing until after the holidays...

I know what you mean trying to calculate food for these guys.. I did the same thing and had to order from a supplier down in TN mid month. Great stuff but more expensive than MPC. I liked the way the bundle their food. It's apparently frozen in long 2" blocks then cut and put in vacuumed sealed thick plastic bags.. Easy to stack in freezer too!

Great on getting all kinds of different proteins so they don't get fixated on one! Yeah, I hear ya about freight train dropping off a load of food... thank goodness I like peanut butter and jelly!

Suzi ate great all day yesterday. She ate a total of 4.5 ounces... This morning she turned her nose up and has refused to eat. I'm not offering canned/dry again... I've been thinking of fasting her for 24 hours anyway. Looks like she's doing it herself.

In regard to throwing up raw. I just read recently that it's normal for them to do that until their digestive system gets used to all this good stuff coming at them! LOL Great news about Lulu after all these years!
