Hi! I have a 10 year old Sphynx and I recently joined a Sphynx Facebook group. Turns out its filled with people posting 1,000 ways their cats can get sick or die and its really been freaking me out!
I haven't had Percy tested for HCM yet but I just upped his insurance and will be making the appt next month for the test.
Anyway, I've basically become a puddle of anxiety so I was hoping I could see some Senior Sphynx cats or some positive health stories to make me feel better?
Thanks!!!

Take it one day at a time and don’t rob yourself of the joy of this amazing breed. Our breeder is fantastic, and yet I know the breed’s lifespan is now 8-14 years of age. It just kills me, knowing how low this number is, but I remind myself years are nothing compared to the love/life we share within them.

@valeriexxm , awh, hugs n head smooches to Percy, fellow Floridian!

I found FB groups can easliy lead us down a rabbit hole. Echoing catzzzmeow's reply. remember our babies live in the moment and only know our love.
I will share my experiences. I adopted Tobylove at 11 mos old off a craiglist ad from a closest breeder when my heart was vulnerable. He had no paperwork or history she would reveal. He lived a long healthy happy 12 yrs . every day treasured.

*****. Sharing a positive ! I still have 2 senior sphynx Claire Bare 14 and 1/2 yrs old, and Batman who will turn 15 yrs old September 6th.
they are not related.

ClaireBare from a reputable Breeder who regularly HCM scans her sires/dames. I adopted Claire Bare as retiree at age 2.
She is now 14 1/2 and acts like a kitten and the most cuddly baby girl.

Batman I adopted from a member here. Batman and his brother did not have papers and they said he was from someone on the military where they were stationed who bred sphynx. Batman is a wild child cuddle bug , chatter box and acts like a kitten running around talking loud and wagging his tail like a dog.

hugs n head smooches to you and Percy. love to see a photo of him. all paws are family.

** keep in mind, there are senior kitties out there I have seen on our sphynxlair facebook group Log into Facebook and here on sphynxlair.

we sometimes don't see posts when people's sphynx are doing great in their senior years when everything is going great.
. Often times I personally have found people may only post when there are issues.

Enjoy Percy! {= live in the moment as my babies have taught me. They only know our love.

we are here for you. Please keep us updated on Percy's scan! all paws crossed for good news updates.

I agree with the wise words of the other, very experienced, members. It is , unfortunately human nature to express negative experiences but when things do go well , we don't seem to trumpet the positives enough. (I work in human health care and am regularly questioned about procedures where people have seen posts on the internet about how things went wrong) but do remind people that , usually things are ok . Sometimes I think posting negative experiences can be a way of trying to warn others so possibly spare them from a similar bad experience, however dwelling on the negatives can be scary and cause anxiety . I think making sure your insurance policy is robust is a good idea anyway but remember you have your beautiful Percy right with you and enjoying his life Try to take a leaf out of his book. .My Kiwi is now 11 years old. She has yearly health checks and thankfully her heart functioning is normal so far. She was diagnosed with a mild murmur when she was very young but this has not affected her. She is a little lumpy now, these are fatty cysts and don't bother her , but otherwise she is fine.
