Hello everyone!
I am new to this site and still trying to figure everything out. I live in Ottawa, Canada. I’m a long time Devon Rex and Sphynx lover. I’ve had five Devon’s and four Sphynx. Unfortunately I wasn’t aware of HCM when I bought my first Sphynx. Alfie passed away at 2.5 years. The loss was so traumatic and heartbreaking for me. I honestly had a very difficult time with his death. I’ve lost many pets and many humans including my father’s suicide when I was 27. Alfie’s death affected me in ways I never experienced before. I loved him more than I’ve loved anything or anyone. I did end up getting another male from a registered breeder who claimed none of her cats have ever gotten HCM. I got one from her that did. Louie showed no symptoms at all. No heart murmurs or anything. I had planned doing an ultrasound on him around the age of four. Unfortunately he passed at 3.5 years. Another painful and traumatic death. After not wanting to go through it again I decided my days with a Sphynx were over until my partner came home with Louie’s carrier bag and a beautiful kitten inside. I was extremely angry and was told I wouldn’t want to send him back to where he was living. Eventually I grew to love Happy more than life itself. I had him genetically tested for HCM. He has one normal Henry and one HCM gene. So far his echocardiogram was normal and he will be going again around September. I will continue to do annual echo’s on him. So far so good. He’s a beautiful boy. White with very blue eyes.
I joined this site because I love everything Sphynx and may be able to learn things from others who share my love. Thank you so much for making such a great website for all of us!
