Hello to cut a story short!
I bought a sphynx cat a couple of weeks ago and thought at the time she was overweight as the man i bought her from said she hasnt been bred and was always pot bellied....

Anyway i have woken up this morning to her with three kittens!

Ive left her where she is with a heated snuggle pad and given her some food

But i want to do the best for her and the babies

So what should i do leave her to it ? She is with them and feeding them

What is the best food i can give her now and any other help for her and kittens

She was being fed on go cat and whiscas, these are not great foods i am aware 9actually they're terrible) but with my previous experiences with sphynx they have taught me if anything that if you find a food that agress with your cat, you stay with it

different to my previous sphynx, this girl is very healthy, no apparant allergies, no runny poo, no rashes etc, so as the food agreed with her, I wanted to leave her on it

i feed my dog raw diet, and my previous sphynx, she has been getting some pure salmon, cod, tuna, beef and chicen breast in addition to the biscuit

Should I continue on this way, or should i change the biscuit to a better biscuit ?

If the mama cat is tending to her kittens, then thats good, as long as everyone is feeding and looks healthy I would just keep an eye on all of them. The food is your decision, but bear in mind, a change of food can sometimes cause tummy issues.

I would phone the vet and ask them for advice... oh my what a surprise!! Keep everyone warm and in a separate room where your other animals cannot get near the momma and her babies.

Oh my what a surprise! Congrats! I definitely would make a call to your vet and make sure everything is going smooth- and make sure there are no other babies coming or hidden anywhere by momma cat.
I agree with separate secure warm comfy area for momma cat and babies.

Keep us posted - hugs to momma cat and babies!

She chose of all places an empty vivarium, it's as good as any place I suppose, it's warm, clean and private.
If i feel she isn't warm enough I also have the option to add a heat lamp for her too.

After a few words with the vets, they told me the most important thing was that she needs to be on a kitten food.

Go cat and whiskas are terrible food, so not wanting to just completely change her food over I came up with the compromise of buying a large bag of this

8805_royalcaninmotherbaby_9.jpg

"Previously known as: Royal Canin Babycat 34 Cat Food, was specially formulated for mothers and kittens 1-4 months old during weaning, as well as gestating and nursing queens"

and I mixed the large bag into her original biscuit mix, to gradually introduce it.

This way I will gradually wean her off the terrible food!

Even though she is in a 3ft (90cm) vivarium, she is being such a devoted mum I have had to move her food bowl right next to her, as she refuses to leave her babies, even to go to the other side of the vivarium for food !

The vet wants me to bring mum and babies at two weeks, and they will worm the babies and check on mum, but as she is otherwise healthy and happy it's a case of having her warm and well fed!

Well congrats. I urge you to do any switching of foods very slowly. When I did have litters down I did not have good luck with babycat. Mine did better with the siamease breed food or special 33. I always added in wet food. The mums seemed to for that first. Wishing you happy healthy bundles of joy.

I have bought some more meat, so she is going to be getting some more pure beef and lamb, as well as a small amount of organ/offal, I will be limiting the amount of organ though, as it's not good in large doses.

They are pure sphynx hairless ! The person I got her off had two very well bred males, top pedigree studs, I bought her to get her neutered and have her as a pet, one of their boys must have got her by accident or unnoticed

Thank you for all your kind words and support , I will keep you all updated

So far Mum is doing fantastic job , adores the kittens and is purring like mad all the time around them

She's so loath to leave them she held her wee in allll day until she couldn't any more , ran to her litter tray in the bathroom (I moved it closer to the door do she can still see her babies when she's In the tray) did the worlds longest wee , without breaking eye contact with her kittens, then ran straight back to them and gathered them all up purring . :-D

So happy for you. Yes, I would keep them until between 14-16 wks.
Of age, most reputable breeder do. I didn't get Izmae until 16 wks.
Keep us updated and many pics.
