About 6 months ago I rescued a poorly treated Sphynx from a bad situation. In the time that I've had him I've grown quite attached. Unfortunately we are having some behavioral issues, health issues and financial issues. Since I have brought him home I have had numerous issues with him "going potty" everywhere but the litter box. As far as his health, he has skin allergies which I have spent god knows how much trying to get under control. Within the last two months I finally seem to have found the right combination of shampoo and skin cream, as well as a nutritional supplement. As far as food goes, lord help me, after trying literally dozens of different diets, the only thing he can eat that doesn't cause him to vomit have diarrhea. His ears were in such horrendous shape when I rescued him that I have had to anesthetize him twice to remove the ungodly amount of buildup, along with a dental due to the horrible state his mouth was in. He had to have 6 teeth removed. After all of his medical treatment I am about tapped out financially. And sadly, I think he may be diabetic or hypothyroid. I'm at a loss. I don't know what to do. The people where I'm staying are sick of the constant messes in the house. I need help! I need some advice on behavioral, diet, etc. Or possibly a new home :( I'm desperate

Welcome to The Lair. Kudos to you for adopting a baby in need of help. I see you are a vet tech, so I hope you are getting some good advice from the animal hospital in which you work. I am not sure where to try to give support. Did you check out the Sphynx Cat Hep Center? Here is a link to it. You might find some helpful info there. Is he neutered?
BTW your baby is a cutie!

Welcome to sphynxlair, good to have you.
So sorry you are having issues with your baby. Thank you for giving him a chance.
here is a link about litter box issues. @susi794 has posted several times. It might help you.
I ask too, is he neutered? Since his ears have been cleaned that well, you need to put Epi optic
cleaner in his ears twice a week. Massage his ears around after you put the drops in and let him shake his head.
Then clean his ears. I use baby wash cloths for Izmae and I put my pinky inside the cloth and clean as much as I
can, then, I get a q-tip and get the little crevices only that I can see and can't get with a cloth.
Here is a link for the Epi optic. But, you can get it a lot of places.

Thank you for the link! And yes, he is neutered. I've done so much through the clinic I work at. Next step is bloodwork. It's been a roller coaster with this baby. Poor guy.

@SadSphynxMom , we want you to be happy Sphynx mum and help in every way - we are here for you and your Sphynx
Boy!

What is his name? He is soo handsome and lucky to have found an angel in you- bless your heart for being his angel

I would start from scratch- keep him in your bedroom with his box and food, cat tree etc- free roaming is a privilege-
He has been through hell and coming back to learning what life really is for a kitty with you- a Da bird toy works wonders for bringing the kitty out in these sphynxies! Get him into a routine of litter box training , chow times and play time, snuggle time.. In your bedroom with all his stuff- poor guy has to learn what kitty life is-

Are there other pets in the household and are they spayed/neutered?

Years ago I adopted a retired stud bengal- I went with an unscented litter in a big litter box- put down different types of kitty boxes- next to each other - different types of litter scented litter, non scented litter, etc- watch which one he prefers and --- give him lots of verbal praise and treats when he comes out from using the litter box! Do it immediately like you would train a dog- timing is everything! I did this and he actually loved to play the litter box game and wait for a treat! Then do it randomly once he is consistent-

Food- I have have 4 adopted Sphynx and a rescue bengal and no poo issues- I also live in Florida not far from you- I autoship Lifes Abundance dry and canned- company out of juniper florida never had any recalls- so,e vets office carry it, some pet boutiques like Silly Willys in New Smyrna Beach. It is cheaper then there website- have you tried a little Libby 100% pumpkin for his tummy/diarrhea? My Toby likes it as just a treat once in awhile - a teaspoon warmed-

I bath once a month and do not use any skin creams- I use Hylyt shampoo- my wrinkly girl came with enterderm ointment in case she gets any irritations in her wrinkles- I rarely ever need it since I just wipe her face every morning now with a damp baby face cloth and pat dry-

Every few days In between baths, I wipe them down with my own baby wipe mix with a baby face cloth-

In between baths : A mix of warm water, very diluted with a few drops of hylyt shampoo and two tiny drops of blue dawn detergent-
Really gets any brown Sphynx grime off and great on their tummies and behind their ears-
I pat them dry . We have no skin issues doing this routine on all four Sphynx- I find less is best and not overly fussing -

Ears- Trizuktra plus keto - got at vets office ( you may have some where you work) I now get 12 oz. online- it can be used on skin as a flush too-
Two of my adoptees had dirty ears and I was cleaning ears 3 xs a week with trizultra - now they can be done 1x a week -Trizultra made a big difference-

I use it on round cosmetic pads and qtips and cone shaped cosmetic tips from walmart-
I wet the cosmetic pad and gently squeeze a few drops inside ears as I wipe /massage -the cone shaped cosmetic tips with Trizultra in a twirl motion in the tiny skin folds works great -

I hope his blood test comes back normal and no diabetes or hypothyroid- if it does, I am sure there are some folks here that can home in with a food that works as well as your vet office- we all share our ups and downs with our sphynxies and come up with some wonderful solutions with the combined years of Sphynx experience here on the Lair-

(Many of use have a Care Credit card for those sphynx emergency vet bills- your office may have it- it can be used for people dental and some vision places too! Bills over $200 get a 6 mos term to pay off with minimum monthly payments- interest accrues but if you pay it off ( the min due usually $25 will not pay it off- so be careful and know it must be paid in full or you get whacked with huge interest- works fine if you stay on top of it)

(When my bill is $180 at the vet, I throw in some hylyt shampoo or ear cleaner or food to hit the $200 to get the 6 mos promo with Care Credit)

**It can used for under $200 but you have to pay that amount immediately on the next bill- they are sneaky and don't break down the over and under 200 charges on your bill - you have to keep track of it yourself- they will just run a total - you have to pay on line and the call them to split the payment between the under $200 charge and any promos you have on account- or they will zap you with interest - they charge you $10 to call and do the split payment- free if you pay online then Call to split it- they can be confusing but if you write it done separate and keep on top of it- it works great!
You can work the card if you know their fine print and ask lots if you sign up- and keep a separate written log of charges - some reps are friendly- some not much- so I call back to get a nice one) enough of that- just wanted you to know the dark side of are credit in case you go that route)

We know you are doing everything for this boy- please know we are sending out prayers and thoughts this things settle down-

Please keep in touch and ask away any questions- we are here for you....
Head kisses to your baby- thank you for opening your heart and home and giving him the love and care he never knew before there was you :)
