I think I've posted this before but it's been eons since I was active on the forum so, I'll bite...
I was in a pretty nasty fatality RTA and lost the use of my right arm for a period of time and got some major nerve damage to boot that stuck me for the most part, in a wheelchair...
I'd be a liar to say the whole deal didn't mess with my head and, there were times when I felt like going in the basement and grabbing my 50 calI lived in the States then, I'm not a nutter with a hidden firearm in the UK lol! Anyhow, I decided to go see a shrink rather than play with the 50 cal and he suggested a pet might divert my attention and give me something positive to focus on... Well, dogs were out of the question because I wasn't going to try walking one in that state and I didn't want any creepy crawlies or reptiles but, I knew I wanted something different to most because unsurprisingly, I felt different! Anyhow, I decided it was going to be a Sphynx kitten, got Ra and things have been different and for the most part better, ever since

What's RTA?
How lovely that a sphynx could give you so much support in a low point in your life. And thank god you didn't chose the basement.
Glad to have you back Dave.![]()

We were Blessed to take her home the same day

I went to see a breeder about getting a female devon rex kitten. She also had sphynx, which I didn't know until I got there, and from the moment I walked in to her cattery I had a little 7-month-old naked boy glued to me. I figured it was meant to be, and Winston's been by my side ever since.
Can't imagine my life without him!!!
Ra was a blessing when yoiu needed one most....and I know he continues to be. So glad you're back, Dave!
My mom has always had hairy cats and so I said I would never do it. When I found out about the Sphynx, I knew that I had to have one but I had to wait till I moved out. It was my second year in college and I started to look into getting one and I found this website so I posted a few things and came to decide that I needed to adopt an older cat so that I could afford it and just so happen that one of the members on here just posted about a cat they found on petfinder and I contacted the lady about her. The owner wanted her and her mom to go together but I couldnt take both and she told me that I had to find someone else or else I couldnt have her so I found two other people who ended up backing out and so I was heart broken because I was afraid that I wouldnt get her. So I told her owner that she needed to decide now whether I could have just her or not because if not I'm moving on because it was very stressful to think I was going to get her and then it be taken away and this happened twice. So she decided to give me Akali. So I went and picked her up 4 days before Thanksgiving last year, and everyday I kick myself for listening to my family and not taking her mom because I really wish I would have because it was a really great price for both. Anyways thats my story![]()
Did you try to contact the lady again? Maybe the mom is still available!![]()

OK, here's my story: My sister said she wanted a sphynx--I thought they were ugly, but we tried to find one for her--but they were so exxpensive and she wouldn't pay that kind of money for a cat. Well, she was in the Air Force Reserves and was deployed overseas for 90 days and asked me to cover for her at her job, since it was the summer and it was where I used to work--so I knew the ropes. I said I would and she had left a Cat Fancy magazine near her desk and there was an article about sphynx--I was bored, so I read it....and became intrigued at their description, so for the fun of it, I started looking around for a breeder anywhere close to me. I found a lady that was selling my beautiful Moody for a good price because he wasn't registered. I thought he was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen, but I wanted one by that time, so I went to Ohio to pick him up. I thought if I didn't like him, I could give him to my sister. Well, I went to the woman's house and I had to go to the bathroom something fierce, so I asked her if I could use her restroom--she said yes, so I went in and sat down on the toilet--the door swun open, a beautiful tuxedo male came running in, jumped up onto my naked lap, started purring and kissed me right on the lips. It was Moody's daddy....and there began my instant love affair with this breed. I brought Moody home and he was a naughty little brat about clawing his carrier and crying all the way home--but the minute he got out of the carrier he was an angel.....and remains my heart cat to this day. well, I felt bad that I had one and mys sister didn't, so I researched some more and found a woman in Kentucky who had a male and female for sale--I could get the pair for a really good price, so I bought Habibi and her brother Fishbones and brought them home---Fishbones for my sister as a gift, and Habibi for a playmate/mate for Moody. I planned to have a litter or two and then stop, but I found I loved having the babies. I decided to get a registered pair and become a "real" cattery. So I gave myself a name, registered my cattery with TICA and the rest is history. I have never regretted getting these precious babies and I can't imagine my life without them. I have since given my sister two other boys who still live with her and I get to see anytime I want. So I am surrounnded by these lovely creatures.
That's my story....LOL...first there was one...and then there were 9.
Our story started June 18,2011 when Bob and I walked into Petsmart to do our regular biweekly shopping. We had 3 white cats are were not looking for any more... As usual, we turned into the homeless cats aisle and we stopped dead in our tracks. There were 2 sphynx kittens curled together in the largest cage! One was a beautiful light calico, and the one that began to meow at us was a grey tuxedo with the funniest little black dot on her nose. She looked just like God had touched her nose with a dirty finger! We discussed them with Carol the cat lady and learned that these kittens had a true Las Vegas story. Their mom was bred to a Russian stud and then sent to Las Vegas from New York to pay off a gambling debt. When she arrived, she had ringworm. The new owners didn't want to deal with that, so she ended up at the rescue organisation. The mother was treated for the ringworm, had 4 kittens (1 died at birth), and when the kits were 12weeks old, all of them and mom were neutered and put up for adoption.
When we saw the kits, the mom and brother had been adopted. The girls were priced highly at $500.00, mostly to discourage people who weren't serious. So we looked at the girls, talked to the loud one and went to pay for our catfood. Carol chose that time to bring out the loud kitten and I just had to hold her. Carol told me later that she knew that if I held this kitten, then I would adopt her.
We went home with just food, but we discussed the kittens all the way. About an hour later, Bob looked at me and announced that we were getting a kitten. We went back to the store and both kits were still there! I kind of wanted the calico, but that tuxedo with the smudged nose and loud mouth decided that we were hers.
We knew almost nothing about Sphynxes, but we are very experienced with cats and I did much of my research with Cleopatra on my lap. By the way, she spent 4 solid hours racing around the house the day we got her. The fun hasn't stopped.
