How long does it normally take for a new cat to get accustomed to your home?

We currently got a new sphynx.. I will post pics soon :) .. We kept her in a spare bedroom in our house for a few days to make sure she was in good health.. She was doing great. Didn't hide. Would come to us and sit on our laps and purr and want to be rubbed. Well.. We introduced her to the rest of our clan and as expected she was not very happy. She is hissing and hiding from the cats.. But she is also hissing and growling at me!!! My husband will come into the room and she goes to him and wants him to rub her.. Any thoughts on this behavior? I have started calling my hubby the "cat whisperer"... and he claims to not even like cats.. HA!HA!

Kika has been with us for almost 4 weeks --- and we have 1 older not very friendly cat besides her.
so our schedule was something like this:

first 5 days -- she was in our spear bedroom
one more week -- she was coming outside and hissing around with Juliet (our older cat)
we had to close her for the night time as they were fighting a lot.
3nd week -- they both sleep on our bad - Juliet is on my side and Kika with my hubby  :)
this week -- Kika started sharing Juliet litter box and Juliet didn't mind ( big sound of relief )
I do have to feed them separate or hold Kika why Juliet is eating as she tend to eat for 2, but otherwise we have 2 very happy cats who even played together once :)

hope that will help you

As the others said, it could take a week or even a few.

I've offered this advice a few times here. Maybe it'll work for your situation. Using a paper towel or old hand towel... try rubbing opposite urine scents on your cats. Sometimes when they smell each other's scents, they become more accepting of one another. Just press the paper/hand towel onto some of their urine in the litter box. Of course, be sure you know whose urine you're taking. Rub some of your kitten's urine onto your older cat & vise versa. Yes, I know its gross, but....:Dizzy:

Keep us posted:Smile:
