How much can we take?

So...We have had Pinkerton just about a month. She was imported from Russia which I didn't know until 3 days before we got her. We all know how expensive these cats are... We have spent over 700 bucks in food, vet bills, 3 different kinds of litter, Antibiotics and medicine...Her dirrerah is worse than ever. She had an infection in her eye that made it swell up like she got hit. Now we have to leave her in the bathroom by herself to keep from dragging poop everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE which she has MULTIPLE times...My question is,is there anything we can do as far as taking her back to the breeder? Or re homing.The last sphynx I had was incredible and never had ANY issues.. I really like her and I know its not her fault, but just cant deal with this. Back to the vet tomorrow. I'm frustrated beyond belief,and just generally sad for her.

@asputin , awh sweetie, hugs n positive vibe head smooches. please update what her diagnosis was? what medications? fecal test results? did they rule out giardia? it can take a few weeks for meds to kick in and some time for healing.
so very sorry you and your baby going thru this . she is precious.

And sounds as though you feel that you’ve tried everything and it’s too much and you would like to rehome her and that’s fine. You can post your rehoming request here on the boards and you can also ask your vet there may also be some local Sphynx rescue groups and I would definitely ask the breeder if she would help.I know it’s a hard decision to make but sometimes irs the best decisions to make. Hang in there.

I agree I would talk to your vet about it possibly being giardia. It often test false negative and many vets will still prescribe the meds for this even if the test said negative because it will do no harm and just in case they really are positive.

My little boy is from Russia too. It really does a number on their bodies to be in a plane that long. Do you know if she was in cargo or delivered by courier?

Tolik’s fecal was negative too, but the vet still put him on Metronidazole for 7 days just in case. He has had diarrhea as well.

Your girl having an upset system doesn’t mean anything is permanently wrong or that who you got her from did something wrong. It’s just an unfortunate side effect of traveling from halfway across the world.

Regardless, I would ask your vet about Metronidazole (just in case) and also add some puréed plain pumpkin to help firm her up.

Not sure if you can do this, but I’ve been by my kitten’s side since he arrived. When he goes to the litter box I am right there waiting with baby wipes. I clean his anus immediately so he doesn’t track anything, then I clean the litter box right away so he doesn’t get back in and step in it.

I know you're getting to the end of your rope, but my experience with my little boy after surgery and a few nights at the vet is that it can take a really long time for stress diarrhea (I know you may be dealing with something else) to clear up. We dealt with liquid poo for over a month. It was a slow process to get back to normal, but we made it. We were lucky in that there was never urgency, so he always was able to go in his box. However, we did have to store the Litter Robot and go "old school". We also set up a camera that sent us notifications every time he went to the box so we could be at the ready in case cleanup was needed.

Have probiotics been suggested by the vet?

You have got, and will get more helpful info from the wonderful folks here, and I hope the baby improves. Just remember, though, that no one will hold it against you if you feel you've already exhausted your options (and yourself!) and need to rehome Pinkerton. I do think that would be a better option than returning to the breeder. At least you would be in control over where your little one would end up.

That's so sad. I'm sure Pinkerton will be an amazing cat once the medical issue is cleared up. Don't give up on it, yet. If you need, I would foster the baby for you and help. I live in Los Angeles and don't know where you live. This would be my worst nightmare, though, should the baby not get better. It's heartbreaking, but it sure looks like you have a supportive group of experts and nice people on this site that really do want to help both you and your new cat.
