I Ordered My Camera Today!

Well, I am pretty excited--after weeks and weeks of research, I decided to order the NikonD3100 digital SLR camera from a place in NY. I got the camera kit with lens, battery and battery charger but then bought a starter package with an extra battery and charger,the SD card, a card reader, a tripod, a case and a cleaning kit--all for only $40 more than what I have seen it listed almost everywhere I went. It's an entry level DSLR, but it's gotten great reviews and has some nice features on it. I'm excited for it to come. I will be sure to tke some new pics and post them so you can all see what it can do. I hope it's a good investment....I've got to buy NOTHING else for a few weeks. Between the camera and the HCM scans, I am BROKE now!

oo I've been eyeballing that camera for a while now. I didn't get it because of my lack of test subjects (though that'll change soon). lol. Hope you'll like it. I think I'll wait until after you review about it to get it or another one I've been eyeballing.

I actually bought a DSLR about 2 years ago thinking it would be the be all and end all when it came to photographing miniatures... absolutely hated it compared to my Canon G10 which is an older (but very capable) point and shoot but, for anything non macro its absolutely awesome!

It's probably awesome in macro mode too but, after 50 or so failed attempts I was done playing

LOL, Dave--I HOPE it's going to be a good camera for me. I loved my Pentax SLR camera, but since most everything I do any more is just hobby stuff, i found all the equipment too cumbersome to worry about. I print my own pics too on my PC, so I needed to go digital. I have coveted them since I first saw someone that had a DSLR, but couldn't afford the thousand dollars it would take to own one. This one was half that price, is light, and has some nice features on it--so.....we'll see.

You'll do fine with it Suzi, my problem was I'd never used an SLR before and even following tutorials it was just too time consuming and frustrating when it came to macro shots...

Oooh congrats I would also like a Nikon..or maybe a canon - have a fugifilm at the moment and takes fuzzy pictures if I'm outside in sunshine then it takes fab photos I am proud of a few I took at the zoo's in Netherlands

Well, I got a call from the place where I ordered the camera from--it seems I had neglected to check a box that asked for a signature for the delivery of the package and they wanted to verify if I didn't really care if I signed for the package. So I verified that I did, indeed, want that assurance that I actually receive the package. Anyway, the sales rep started asking me quesitons as to how I heard about them, if I were a new customer, why did I order the starter accessory pack, etc. I answered him and he told me the SD car I ordered would only work for the video portion but not for taking pics. So I said, well, gosh, I would need to order that too and asked the cost--he told me, but then said if I wanted the more powerful card that would acommodate either, he would trade one for the other and only charge me the difference in price. Also, instead of me ordering two one hour batteries, he would exchange them both for an 8 hour battery and better charger from the professional package at no extra cost. I thought it was a pretty good deal....he only asked that I come back to their store when I wanted more lenses and to tell my friends about them. He also told me if I have any trouble or can't figure out how to do something to call him and he will be glad to help me figure it out. I was glad he called, as I would've been really mad if I got the camera and couldn't take any pitures with it. This store has been in business for over 50 years and I can see why....now if the product is as good as the service I will be extremely happy. He told me the lens is just a basic lens, and asked about what kind of pics I will be taking--then said when I am ready to step up a few notches, I would probably really enjoy a 50 mm lens--about $500 worth. LOL...I bet I would enjoy that. But I just chuckled and said well that is a few years down the road.....so that will probably go on my wish list for future wants...

50mm, what does it come with? I know you don't have it yet but do you yet know how this camera is with shutter lag? And how light is it?

It is very lightweight and it takes 4 frames per second.

I got it today, but haven't had time to unpack it.....came home from my meetings to find it on the porch. I should've done it then, but was soooo tired. I took a nap instead. Will let you know tomorrow.
