Hello Everyone

What a great website this is! Im very exited about becoming a Sphynx owner and part of this wonderful community. Im Tanya, a proud new mommy of a baby boy named Nacho. At first we thought he was a girl but turned out that he was just the smallest dude in the bunch.

I talked my husband into getting a Sphynx kitten a few months ago which was a long and agonizing process for both of us. Eventually he caved. With battle won, I started my search. When I saw Nacho's picture I was sold right away. I knew I had to have him. We contacted the breeder who turned out to be not a breeder, but just a girl with a female Sphynx who happened to have a friend with a male. It was the first littler for everyone, the cats and their owners.

When we came to see him, at the time we were told he was a girl, we saw three cutest kittens playing all over the couch. If my husband had any second thoughts about getting a cat they were gone as soon as he laid his eyes on those bundles of joy. Nacho was the smallest one in the bunch and very different from his brothers who kept running around like crazy and climbing everything they saw. Unlike his brothers, Nacho came to me and sat on my lap, immediately I fell in love.

We wanted a boy originally, but since Nacho was so great we decided a girl is ok too. Imagine our discovery :Surprise: a few days later when we saw his little junk! After we brought him home he's been eating like crazy and visibly grew in just two days. I guess he was the weakest link and got bullied around by his brothers for food.

Nacho is amazing. He's so much more than what I imagined him to be. He loves to cuddle on my husband's chest and nibble on his neck, he even gave him a little hickey. They're best friends now!

Sorry if this post is too long :Dizzy:, Im just very exited and happy!
And can someone help me please, now I have a few questions... Im confused about what color he is supposed to be. His face and ears are black, is he a mink point? And also since he didn't come with a contract we have a choice of neutering him... should we? what are the chances of him spraying if we don't? Do most people here neuter their boys?

Thanks a bunch,

Hello and welcome to the Lair!! Your boy is beautiful.
Let me start by saying YES neuter him. Unaltered males are no fun, most spray, they call to females and can be an all around pain in the BUTT!!!

Your boy looks black to me.

Welcome and congratulations on Nacho! Seems he has captured your hearts. HE IS SOOOO CUTE!
By all means, do neuter your boy. He will be a happier boy and you will be happier with his behavior! Make sure your veterinarian, hopefully someone with sphynx experience, checks him out, too.....
So happy to see your obvious excitement! There's lots of good info and great people here...

Hello TanyaMeaw and welcome to Sphynxlair! Thanks for the story, it wasn't too long. He looks like a chocolate mink, and yes, get him neutered as soon as he is ready which is generally 6 months old. What a cutie! Please enjoy the site!

Thank you everyone! You guys are really helpful  We'll definitely neuter him since everyone says its the best way to go. We don't want him spraying anything... Long time ago I had a cat who used to spray my clothes and shoes, it was horrible!!! Never want to go through that again.

Hello Nacho. You are a handsome boy. What a cute. I would get him fixed. He has no papers of might as well. It will be better for his health too. He will bring you years of love and joy. You will forever want a sphynx.

Welcome!
He looks like my daughters sphynx...Monroe. I don't know if males carry on like the females...but Wednesday came in heat at 5 months and almost drove me insane before I could get her to the vet. So do it as soon as your vet thinks it is safe.

WElcome to the Lair! He looks black to me. Admin,he can't be mink--mink means having aqua eyes, and Nacho doesn't. At least that is my understanding of the term "mink".
He sure is a cutie though! And you definitely want to neuter him. Intact males are problematic.
Looking forward to getting to know you better and hearing lots of stories about Nacho.
Hugs,
Susi and the gang

Welcome to the Lair, hope you'll enjoy it here!

Your baby also looks black to me (he looks comparable to other black sphynxes I have seen...), but either way, he's a beauty! I would definitely neuter him, it's a good way to prevent nasty behaviour (but I saw you already decided on getting it done).

Nacho is super gorgeous! Congrats and welcome to the lair!
Uneutered males STINK like skunks, or ferrets....except you cant remove the scent glands on a cat....horrible! I have a very sensitive nose and I dont know how breeders put up with the odour...I think they are fabulous for loving the breed so much they can put up with the smell!!! Bless them!
Also love Nacho's name..

This is the quintessential story. Your husband gave you a hard time about getting a kitty. I've got a prediction for you. In about a year or so, he'll start looking for another. Then he will have to convince you to get another.
