Input needed! Tired of sleeping on the floor!

Alright, I've had Jay for a week now and I have been sleeping on the floor with him because I have a loft bed.
I'm not sure much longer i can stand sleeping on this floor.
my breeder suggested getting a cat tree to place beside my bed, but my mom genius she is built this contraption of crates and boards and such. Looks like a great kitty staircase, but Jay has yet to show any interest in it. Any ideas on how I can get him to at least look at it would be awesome!
Also, I'm kind of worried about him falling its about a 7ft drop and there are railings but right now he could go through them!
Soo any ideas would be awesome!

Yes, a cat tree placed right beside your bed is a good idea. This way if he wants to be with you, he can just climb the tree. It gives him a choice of either sleeping next to you or staying on the tree.

Agree with the cat tree. Or, you could put little cat steps up the actual wall, like shelves but in a stair step formation. Some people here (Jenny Dios and Dare2bbare/Nikki) have built cat shelves on their walls, which might be an idea instead of having a tree next to the bed.

I had a loft bed when I was a kid, and I used to put my cat, Rudy, in it with me. She never fell out of it. She would wake me up when she wanted out and I would pick her up and hang her over the edge and put her into a chair. Never had any problems. Our bald little guys don't have whiskers though, so if he ever does try to jump out, he might not land very well! So something to assist him is probably a good idea.

I decided that moms contraption had to go this morning so i broke it down and I am buying a cat tree today. Much less of an eye sore Hopefully there will be no problems. the only thing I'm worried about is him falling!

He'll be fine with a cat tree, the lure of a warm sleeping spot will motivate him a lot more than you imagine.

I don't think he'll fall out of your bed, they're pretty good at judging distances and if he wants to get out he can use the cat-tree you're buying

Dont forget he's a real cat!! LOL. He will be fine. Seriously
Two of my kid have loft beds. One has a desk at the end of the bed, and the other has a closet and a piano. Nofuratu climbs up and down the ladder, which goes straight up and down so thats funny to watch. The other two cats use the furniture to climb up in stages. No one has ever fallen out, even when Nofuratu was a baby. So dont worry.

Try using cat nip to lure him up. Otherwise he will figure out how to get up there just to cuddle with you.

Its hard to remember sometimes that they are real cats! Haha! He just seems so delicate! Got the cat tree today, made me so nervous watching him go up it, I though I was going to have a heart attack! But Tonight I will be sleeping in my bed because ( Jay typed this for ya'll 1222222222222222222222222bn) I cannot stand the floor any longer! He has blankets out for him to cuddle in if he chooses not to join me! Wish us luck!

I haven't been sleeping on the floor with Elvis, as I have a regular bed so he can jump right up and snuggle with me. I have been sleeping with my lamp on though, I just didnt know how well he would do in a pitch black room. And another reason for the lamp being on all the time is that he LOVES to nap under it, laying on my nightstand.
I also have personal reasons for it, such as I wouldn't be able to see where the lil man is if my lamp is off- and he has been a real snuggler so I don't want to roll over on him. Haha.
I am getting tired of the light at night tho, maybe I will go get a dimmer bulb or something....

You could always get a nightlight, thats what I have for Jay by his litter box. After my eyes adjust I can see pretty well.
He was able to get up on his own twice last night but needed a little help getting down, its a big jump down from step to step on the cat tree. But of course I woke up when ever he moved! It was awesome sleeping in my bed again! Hopefully tonight will go as smoothly!

That is what I'm worried about, his litter box. It is a booda dome, so with the light off I would imagine it is very dark in there. But I cant take the dome off, I would have kitty litter everywhere! I am going to be purchasing a litter robot any day now, but I'm thinking it will be just as dark as the booda dome.
I guess I will have to go nightlight shopping...for my cat! Haha

Idea: ever see those little round lights that you 'click on'.....I've seen some with sticky stuff on the back, I actually have one in my mini fridge. Maybe I could stick one to the top of the inside dome and turn it on at night...?

Cats can see fine in the dark, your kitty will be fine! Their eyes have more rods or cones, I cant remember which one, but it enables them to see well in almost complete darkness. They cant see in complete pitch black, thats a myth, but the tiny bit of light from the moon, or a room with a little night light is reflected and enhanced in their eyeballs. Your kitty will be fine!!! I worried about all of those things when Nofuratu was a baby because he looked so delicate, but they are really quite tough! You will realise that when they bring a mouse into your bed in the middle of the night! LOLOL

just take him up with you when he's in a sleepy mood and he'll learn that its a nice spot for napping. I wouldnt worry too much about him falling, he's a cat, they know what they're doing he wont jump if he thinks its too far but he'll figure out how to get down, Loki loves to climb my book cases, aside from knocking everything off (which he seems to find amusing) he's never tryed to jump from the top or anything! x

Agreed - I've actually read they see better in more dim light due to the structures in their eyes (same as above, rods vs. cones, humans are reverse from cats) . You can do a search for "Can cats see better in dim light?" and find a load of sources.

They can see much better than we can at night! Your kitty actually probably prefers the light off!

Welli will tell you.. My son sleeps in a loft bed and it never crossed my mind that the cats would have any interest in going up..however, this is Sophias FAVORITE place to go.. and It blew my mind when I saw her actually climbing the ladder, step by step to get up there..and se climbs it back down most the way before jumping off... So dont worry about it.. They are cats. They usually always land on their feet and they are very determined so if he wants you, he will find a way. We have never had an issue with Sophia not getting down to go potty. I think sh elikes it up there becase its warmer that close to the ceiling and its a messy boy bed so lots of covers to snuggle under! Hope all is well with you!

He's doing great. Going up and down the cat tree like a pro. He hides up there when I'm not home. It is much warmer up there and he burrows under my blankets. Still get a little nervous when he decides to play with the pulls on my ceiling fan! He fell from the cat tree one time so far and when he landed his tail started the fast twitching and he looked at the cat tree like it was evil and fiercely clawed his way up it.
