Dulcie is a dark brindle retired racing Greyhound who I adopted on Sunday. She's such a love bug and very sweet. She's cat and small dog safe as well. She is completely new to the world of being a spoiled house pet, but seems to be adjusting very well.

Sealy being nosey as usual. The muzzle was just there as a safety precaution. She lived with 4 cats and various dogs at her foster home and was tested as cat safe, but for the first couple of days I had her wear the muzzle anyway to make sure she'd be fine around my cats and dogs.

Her foster mom said she hadn't played yet, so this is her first time. Really near to watch although the video isn't very good because she kept running out of the camera's view and I had to keep moving it.

Congrats on Dulcie, she looks like a fine new addition!
Was this a spur of the moment idea or did you always want a greyhound?

I've always loved Whippets, Italian Greyhounds, and Greyhounds for their sleek and powerful appearances. I was thinking of adding an Italian Greyhound for a while, but within the last few months I started working with a customer who has 3 Greyhounds and a slew of other dogs and 4 cats. The more I talked with her and researched, the more I became interested in adopting a Greyhound. On Friday, I filled out an app for my local Greyhound rescue really just to get more info and see if I had the right environment for a Greyhound. To my surprise, they called my vet for a reference and all of my personal references the same day and then called me. The lady tells me that I have been officially approved and that they have a female they wanted me to meet at their meet and greet held at our local Pet Supplies Plus on Sunday. I was surprised, but after talking with her for awhile I agreed. Sunday morning before even meeting her, I had already bought her a bed :) Her brother was there to be adopted too, very sweet and beautiful boy, but I didn't think I could handle them both at the same time with my other dogs and cats as well.

Beautiful girl! My old neighbor adopted two retired racers. Her girl was a total sweetheart and her boy was a total clown. Dulcie is going to enjoy quite the life with you

I would LOVE to have a greyhound, but I have always been hesitant to even look into it due to the fear of getting too attached to the idea because of the cats. I'll be interested to follow how this goes for you and interested to see how she does with the cats! I've heard retired racers are GREAT house pets and really mellow out once they are retired. I'm so scared they would freak out and take down one of the kitties.

She is absolutely gorgeous. Congrats on the new doggy!

My sil used to foster of the retired great hound groups where she lived. She loved it. She had cats and would test to see if the dogs were good with them or not. In all the years she did it, she only lost 1 cat. and that was only due to 2 new dogs breaking into the house. I dont know how sturdy the back door was, only that the kitten died due to it. But on the briter note, she had MANY dogs go thru her house and only those 2 could not learn to live with the cats.
Now she raises and breeds Boizoi (sp). She races them as well, and they all live with 2 cats.

Yea, I'll let you know how she does. She never bothered with her foster mom's 4 house cats in the week she spent there and so far has no interest in my cats other than the occasional sniff when Sealy comes over and smells her.

She's totally mellow. People say they sleep 20 hours a day and they really mean it. If she's not sleeping, she's laying in her bed. She's spent maybe a total of 2-3 hours up and walking or playing in the entire time I've had her and most of that time was me walking her on the leash!
