Introducing myself and Bowie

Hello, my name is Amanda. I live in Florida with my Sphynx, Chihuahua, and my husband. I was introduced to this site from a friend of mine with naked babies. This site has already been very helpful within the past 15 minutes of reading old posts. So nice to meet everyone.

Anyway, my lovely Sphynx is named Bowie. And I became his mommy very recently through some sad circumstances.

Anyway, on to my story...
Back in June, my very very best friend decided to get another Sphynx. So she found a breeder and we drove 7 hours to pick up her new baby. We decided she should name him Boggart (Bowie as a nickname)... this covered both her love of David Bowie and our love of Harry Potter. XD So a month or so later Bowie started getting goopy eyes and becoming very sneezy and the vet determined that she thought he had Feline Herpes. Well now a few months later she found herself in a living situation where she could no longer keep him, and knowing how desperately I wanted my own naked baby she sent him to live with me. <3

@Nina Gato--the only treatment that does much for herpes is l-lysine. It isn't a cure, but it reduces the severity and frequency of herpes outbreaks. Sometimes herpes causes the immunity to drop enough that other opportunistic bacterial infections arise--those need to be treated with antibiotics--azythromycin and doxycycline usually work well on these cats--but it won't help the herpes as herpes is a virus.

Yes as susi794 already guessed I use a product with L-lysine. I use Viralys Oral Gel For Cats specifically.
It definitely reduces his symptoms.

Bowie is very cute, and thanx for sharing your story with us, but sorry to hear he has feline herpes. Did you know that L-Lysine is good to give kitties that have herpes? It helps control their symptoms. There are some threads here on the Lair about it. Check them out when you have some time​
