When I got Nofuratu he did not come with any health guarantees for hcm. So when I searched for my 2nd Sphynx kitten, Count, my new breeder and I discussed HCM a lot! We were both shocked to find out Count Von Count had severe HOCM at 1yr old even though his parents and grandparents scanned clear and I was given copies of the scans.
This breeder has a 3 year HCM guarantee of refund minus vet bills or another kitten. I am telling you all this because I think its important that people know about HCM and other health guarantees. It is true that you can not guarantee a cat will never get HCM but you can offer a HCM guarantee. Also, just as important it is possible to have a breeder that supports you when you get a sick cat and continues to provide support!
So here is Renfield. I went with the kitten instead of the refund obviously. Also, I chose a kitten from the same parent's as Count Von Count. My breeder had this litter a couple months before we discovered Count's HCM. Now she has to remove these parents from her breeding program, and was also having to find homes for kittens who potentially may also be HCM positive. I know Im setting myself up for potential heartbreak, about a 25% chance I think and I know some people may not understand why Im doing that! but I love Count dearly, and Renfield is very much like him, plus I knew I could provide a good home if disaster happens again.
The photo with two cats is Count and Renfield. Count has gained 2lbs on kitten food and decreased activity from the atenolol! The photo with Renfield wearing a medal....he won a first place in a ring at his first cat show a few weeks ago. So please have positive thoughts and prayers for me that Renfield stays healthy.

Congratulations! Though I'm sorry for the reason you got him, but great of your breeder.
