Introducing the sphynx sisters Marguerite and Elsie

Hello from Melbourne, Australia,

Sphynx dad here of Marguerite and Elsie. I have been coming to this site for the last year for tips and tricks and it has been helpful on many occasions so I thought that I would introduce my 2 lovely girls to you all.

Currently navigating urticaria pigmentosa with Marguerite mainly on back of head and inside ears but thankfully Elsie is not showing any signs.

I am happy to be a part of this community.

Thanks for the check in. I have taken Marguerite to a specialist animal dermatologist vet clinic. It is most definitely urticaria pigmentosa and there was no sign of yeast or bacteria infections which is great.

They have suggested treatment plan to start with the lowest medication and see how it responds and move to upwards to the 'stronger' medication if needed which I agree with as the least amount of medication that I have to give her the better.

I have started with just Zyrtec antihistamine which for some part has kind of worked but there has been a few small break outs (less than before) and her tail is currently having a big break out which is looking pretty red and raw so I have another appointment and will discuss starting her on steroids prednisone or atopica and move forward with a treatment plan.

After this is under control I will be able to swap back to my regular vet with the treatment plan as getting an appointment at the specialist dermatologist vet clinic can take weeks as they are so booked up.

All in all we are moving in the right direction and it's just a matter of finding out what works with the least side effects and then manage it.

bit of an update on the urticaria pigmentosa for anyone that might be searching the term. It has been a 4-5 months with zero flare ups. What seems to be working is 2.5mg prednisolone every 2 days, 25mg cyclosporin every day and 2.5mg antihistamine daily - these are all low doses of the antihistamine and pred. For any one worried about medication for life a happy and comfortable cat without rashes is a better way to think of it. Next month we are trying the 2.5mg pred every 3 days - will update
